Pat Bustle brought this point up to me about cargo ships dry stacking for a lot less money. Do you or anybody else know how to go about checking on this option?

Yep, can't beat a Mini-14 or something like that for comfortable distance work and a Mossberg Mariner if they sneak onto the boat. The "Shuck-Shuck" sound of a pump shotgun cycling a round into the chamber is usually enough to send 'em diving overboard. If they don't dive...well that's why they sell double 00 buck in 3-inch magnum loads.

I was reviewing past posts to see if I'd missed anything. Don't ya'll think it's funny to see how many "Shuck-Shucks" these ole' boys in the adventure movies go through when they're trying to show the bad guy they mean business? You never see unspent rounds flying out of the chamber when they're doing this.

Truth is, Mr. Pirate will never hear a "Shuck-Shuck" from me. My stuff is always primed and ready. All he's going to hear is a very brief KABOOM!!! Walk towards the light Mr. Pirate!

It bugs me too. Just shows how little Hollywood knows about shotguns. My favorite is where 5 or 6 guys try to get the drop on someone and we find out no one thought about actually putting a shell in the chamber! At this point it's a movie convention. I guess it means "Even though I'm already pointing a shotgun at you, I really mean it!"

Boy, has this thread gone off on a tangent.

Hey, the way I see it, it's all relevant! ;)

Well, since we are digressing anyway (and I'll ignore the OTHER thread that touches on being wordy)...

Re rounds in the chamber: In 1968, when I was a rifle platoon leader in Vietnam, the 101st airborne division put out an order that the ONLY guy who was to have a round in the chamber of his weapon during field operations was the point man; additionally, the M60 machine gun was to be carried with the bolt closed which meant the gunner had to cock it first to fire it! This was done to eliminate accidental discharges. As you can probably imagine, NONE of us in the field paid any attention to this order! Actually, I have a feeling that DIV HQ didn't expect us to but they had to show "concern" about accidental discharges.

But on my HATTERAS I don't even keep em loaded, figuring I'll have plenty of notice. I could be wrong...

a few months ago, a couple posted their shipping story on the trawler list. they cruise a dutch built boat in europe and then shipped across the pond... $12k vs $35k with dockside... plus $50 a day per person to travel on the same ship. boat was lifted from the water to the cradle and back va the ship's crane.

http://www.irbs.com/lists/trawlerworld/0512/0397.html

there is a link to their picture page.

WoW Pascal !

So that is how you're going to scurry your 53 footer back to the homeland? I'd heard that crane slings on bulk cargo decks weren't recommended for larger yachts, at least that is what I recall reading on the Dockside website some years ago. Probably they weren't talking about solid hulled Hatts. Dockside used to be cheaper before paying a fortune for the ultrafast transport which must have changed their cost structure. Nice for the MegaRich, but a shame for regular boaters.

Thanks for the link - it is something I am seriously considering.

Cheers,

Richard

Earlier today I sent an email asking those folks for a quote on shipping our 53 to Manzanillo. I'll be curious to see if they come in a lot (or any) lower than the 35K I was quoted by Yachtpath for the same trip. I'll post whatever they reply.

Hey Bubba,

What are YOU doing posting pictures of MY boat? :D

I'm still doing the math before coming up with an offer. I may try to fly out there after visiting with Gooz Boy next week-end. Was going to PM you, but what the heck, go ahead with any plans to view Ocean Motion in Lauderdale. I think it's safe to say, that one is off my list (barring any major price reduction). I've convinced myself that a cockpit is the way to go for FL living.

By the way, I plan to transfer the mermaid table I bought from Carl to a new boat. But if my plans on that change, I'll let you know. Given its new postion of historical significance, the price will be $3,000, cash up front. :p

Hey, some of them Model 12's are getting pretty pricey, might wanna consider something more easily replaced. Some druggie may steal that and sell it to a pawn shop for $100. Kinda like an ole' boy I knew who had a high grade Perazzi O/U (among other things) stolen out of his trunk (unmarked police car! ) at a hotel in Memphis the night before a big gun show. I told him the only thing worse than having lost it would be to see video on the news of a druggie holding up a 7-11 with a sawed off gold-plated Perazzi!

So much for keeping quiet! IMHO keeping an unloaded gun on your boat is like leaving the anchor line off your anchor, or keeping your spare prop at the dock.

A final word on this subject for anybody who is interested. I've decided to hold off on purchasing a bigger boat until things get settled at home, one way or the other. I'd hate to buy some attorney a new boat!

Meanwhile, I'll be fixing up ole' FREEBIRD and bringing her back to the condition where she should be. Truth is, the more time I spend on her, the more I like her. She may not have a cockpit, but she sure is roomy, and I love her lines. Jack ole' buddy, you done good!

WOW! I was just SURE that after spending the weekend on Carl's big 67CMPY you would just HAVE to go get that 70CPMY! I guess Carl gets to keep his position as the biggest Hatt owner on the forum. CONGRATS Carl! :D

I'ts only a matter of time ...but Randys boat has like two living rooms so it really makes it roomy I told him it's not worth the extra money when he's not gaining that much more sqft. his seems to have more room than mine . but after he fixes it up I sure he'll be looking again he's got that boat disease we all have ...

I didn't realize I'd be King of The Hill if I bought a 70! Why did you have to go and bring that up Byron?

If I know Carl, and I think I do, he'd add a 4 foot extension with a Jello filled hot tub just to mess with me!

Thirdhat that was really good , ( sticking it to the man ) :D nothing that I like better than getting Randy all worked up :D

On a different post Randy stated he was "ping ponging" between Tenn and Fla.....
The reason for that is "Tenn doesn't want him and Florida will not accept him".........

Ok if we're going to do some Randy bashing tonight I might as well bring up the Waittres ordeal at the Snook Inn Resturant where he stiffed her ($5.00 on a $100.00 tab ) and her boy friend followed him to the boat :D I'll never be able to eat there again  ok ok I'll admit we where a little loud and she was just doing her job  not to mention the girls he was talking to eating at the table next to the boat I told him they look a little young and as soon as he sat down at there table to hit on them here comes the mother and gives him the evel eye :D some people you just cant reach.....

Randy,

If you do decide to get the boat and go around Mexico, I will standby here with the cavalry, and wait to see who I will have to go rescue, you or the Mexican Navy. LOL :D
