I was very lucky, we all were, down here. Needless to say I am grateful.

Scrod, I didn't realize you were in that area. I have family still living in Merrick- is that your area? You mentioned Merrick Road...

I gotta get out the Atlas and see where all these places are.....
Sandy Hook/ Atlantic Highlands Marina area I know.. But that's as far as I got before the boat I was bringing down to Fla from Cape Cod lost it's transmission...

Saltshaker is reported to be sitting fine and no real apparent damage. Considering what she went through and the fact that the marina next door was completely wiped out, I'm amazed. I still can't get in but a friend who has a fireman's badge was allowed in. He was at my slip and checked her from the dock. I had to wait for 3.5 hours for gas for the generator. Only station opened for 50 miles. Station owner said the problem was the trucks at the refineries were flooded and no fuel deliveries until they can be cleaned out. We have major tree damage here and it's near impossible to get out of our neighborhood. I had to go with a neighbor and we drove under trees that were uprooted and hanging on power lines or other trees. Very unnerving but it was the only way out. Based on what I saw in just our area, this will take a long time to get power back. 2.3 million customers out in NJ alone. No internet or TV at home and cell phones are barely working so I'm feeling out of touch with what's going on in the out side world.

Close, I'm in Wantagh two towns over and the boat is in Amityville. The Hurricane Hole is at the end of a river that is within spitting distance of Merrick Rd. (a.k.a. Montauk Hwy further east) I can see it from the road when I drive by which is good becuse there's a downed powerline at the property and I can't get to it.

How did your family make out? Most folks took a shellacing up here. We were indeed very lucky compared to some of our neighbors.

Thats great news Jack. I dont know why but I was more concerned for the boat then the house, Great houses and cars seem a lot eaiser to find then Great boats. I took some more day time photos at the yard today. The national guard is gone and access to the marina is open.
the first three are of the boat that was leaning against my boat and the next three are from around the yard

Hello Everyone,

I have been at sea for the past 1-1/2 months working but I log in daily to keep up to date.

My boat is down in mexico safe and sound but I feel like I've aged years since Sandy began, I was worried about my family in Scituate Ma, and all of you and your boats. I am so glad that you all have seemed to have dodged major bullets and you were not hurt except for the incalculable stresses that you all went through during this.

I wish you all luck in putting everything to rights

Geo

We are fine here. I wish everyone had been as fortunate as our area was.

from a little further east in bayport from my bow on the hard, the rest of the yard looks
pretty much the same. taken tuesday at low tide.
this year i was put in a different spot in the yard than all my previous years. it turned out to be a
high spot. all the boats where i normally am floated off their stands and are on the ground.
i had tried to wade down to the boat at monday nights high tide. waist deep with rollers on me
in the middle of the street, scary. turned around before i became a statistic. gloria, perfect storm, neither came close to this water level. i've never seen water come up my block so fast.
the 34 hatt in front of me was chocked by the telephone pole in front of the raft.

some more from the yard

the mainship is in the middle of the street. it got hung on the wires as it left the yard.

the picture with the trawler in the middle is where i have always been. all 6 are on the ground.

i feel like i won lotto.

Hey Jim good shot from your boat saw a lot of the other ones heart breaking but it sound like Charlie been busy getting things straighten out.

Talked to Bob today Magic Hat that's the 34 above it is upright water into the galley. Sounds like she will be back next spring.

My yachtclub in New Haven still is out of power tonite. I've had the genny running since Sun. I went down this afternoon and shut her down to clean out the strainer. The water flow seemed a bit low, and she was steaming more than usual. As soon as I cleaned the strainer, she cooled right down. Oil seemed fine but I didn't check the coolant as I did not want to remove the cap hot. Engine temp was right where she should be.

My only damage was one blown out enclosure eisenglass - could have been a lot worse.

Thats great it will be back. I saw his son? Tuesday As we waded to the yard. He was concerned about how bob would take the news if it were a loss. He tripped on something on his way in and his nice camera went for a swim.
The boat didn't seem to have sheered anything underneath from what I could tell. I climbed aboard at low tide and checked the rudder and strut bolts which were all there and not spewing water. thank you hat for big fat keels. At high tide she was floating so they semi chocked her. The mainship in the street was just pulled back into the yard once she floated and semi chocked.
None of the boats where I usually am had enough water to float on Tuesday.
How did you make out?

Jim

Bob did say rudders are bent on Magic hat I said don't worry easy fix. The hell Bob has been through this summer with his health I think this is just another bump in the road.

I was out in Riverhead and pulled on Friday was in the lower lot when Mondays tide came in some boast were close to floating. One owner called in All Island hauling but they could not get to Doug he would have submerged his truck doing it and had to abort. I was nervous about the night tide so I made his trip worth while and had him move me to the higher lot. Well turns out a cover-it let lose and flew into my boat took out a piece of canvas and but two scratch in the bridge. In hind sight should have stayed were I was
Well could have been worse.

Well for any boaters that cruise Peconic bay should remember this building it is Southold Y.C out on Cedar beach point off Great Hog Southold N.Y across from Jessup neck.

This picture was taking at 17:30 Monday and by 21:00 it was totally gone.

Here a shot from a nice day last summer it was a land mark for that point as long as I can remember.

Sandy has taken my 1968 38'Convertible and planted her in the Jersey side of the Raritan Bay. At high tide the hard top is visible from Route 35 and at low tide the starbaord side of the old girl is visible. Gonna miss the old girl she has been a faithful ride since 1994 for me and no one believed she was that old by the condition she was brought back to.

Sorry to hear about your 38. I hope things work out and you get back to boating.
Dave

Thanks Dave when she finally gets raised she may be a good patient for Tom Slane

Below image of waterline on my 43 dc in yard in port Washington, ny. Another 2 feet and I would have been floating.
