Checking for incomplete combustion is easy. Buy an exaust gas anaylizer (for sale at racing parts outlets everywhere) and sniff the exaust. You're looking at the Co2 level.

Sounds like a plan. You come here and hang/lay on the swim platform and take a reading for me. LOL. I don't think so. Besides once the exhaust is mixed with the water I think you would get a boGAS reading.

I think as low as 160 will provide a complete burn in a practical sense in other words I don't think you would ever have a problem resulting from it. If you want to insure a complete burn and good economy improve the ignition quality of the fuel with a cetane booster. That will do more than raising the temp. When you start talking about running at 190 remember 200 is the point where there is a very real posability of cracking a head. Especially in older engines without the "dog bone" or stress relieved heads. This happens frequently and easily and running just 10 degrees away from that is asking for trouble. Especialy when you factor in that the cooling system is so marginal.

160 is the water temp inside the block. It's not the temperature of the walls in the cylinders. I guess in theory a small change in water temp can affect combustion quality, but I don't see it being a problem in the real world.
