Bad news guys! The storm that looked to be coming MY way appears to be planning a vist to YOU!

What's worse is that your warning time is materially shorter.

Nice post with map and all ,
yesterday I felt good , but not now. I't looks like its eye is headed right for where Freebird is docked. :o hard to call guys , hopfully the mountains will slow it down , but it always bounces around the mountains and makes it harder to track. In Naples I'm already stuck I can't go North in time and I can't go South?

Here we go again, barometric pressure down and insurance rates up  I still think they should paint the hurricane track cone of doom in orange and black, Home Depot colors....

Carl G, you can cut across the Okeechobee waterway and hide in SE fla. at least it will put you farther east from the storm. other wise, find a protected spot in Naples, secure her well and hope she goes farther north or west. sorry northwest guys.

Carl,
Could you go up through the ICW and Lake O to the other side? Or is your boat too big for that? It's been year since I was thru there and that was with a 49' boat so I can't remember clearances, etc. Just a thought. Stay safe and we're all hoping you guys miss out on this one.

I hate even to watch this and think what you in FL and the gulf go through. Best of luck! I hope Ernesto misses everyone.

Sure hope those boys at State Farm have a sense of humor with me getting stranded in Florida with that lock closure on the Tennessee. I'm still on a binder at this point, but I'm sure I would be covered if things get nasty. :(

Hey Carl,

May have to put off our little get together over Labor Day.

Hey Pat,

Break out those hurricaine lines Bubba! Let's hope Riviera Dunes is as "hurricaine proof" as it is advertised. Maybe if FREEBIRD bites the dust, we can up the schedule on that 70 in Lauderdale. ;)

I talked on a tread last month with someone ( i forgot ) who was going thru to lake o and was going to send me specs  , I think i can make it but not sure, I think theres a bridge. I draw 5.1 and 23-24 ft high. looks like the lates news now shows more to the south of Tampa, boy It's looking worse for me Now. Freebird if they change the path more to Naples Ft myers you may be ok in Tampa, the strong side is the NE rightside

Hey Carl,

Your mailbox is still full. Give me a call 865/617-6212 or PM me with your phone again (I left your number in my office). We need to talk Bubba! ;)

Ok Ok I figured it out now I had to go into the other folders and delete sent messages  My Phone is H 239-263-2665 C 239-641-0808 call me at home I'll stay online but gotta do some yard work , better to trim now before storm blowes them in the house..with willma 2005 I lost 20% of shingles , 70% of screen cage ,50% of fences, and 3 sky lights

assuming lokcs are open (one or more are sometimes closed for maintenance in summer), going across isnt a problem. I did it 2 1/2 years ago, no bridges to worry about. it's a very viable option...

randy, what's the coverage area on your policy/binder ?

staying for a while over cuba will slow the storm intensification but NHC often under estimate intensification... we've seen many storms exploding in the SE gulf/FL straights...

Coverage area was confirmed to include all of Florida as well as Bahamas and Abacos. I told them I had planned to do some cruising before returning to Tennessee. We all know how the cruising has turned out as well as the return trip. I haven't gotten into specifics as to how long I can stay in FL before having to make changes. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Carl,

Your place in Big Pine, is it for rent? How big of a boat will it fit and is it on the east or west side of the island? I have to find a new place to rent between Big Pine and Summarland key preferably to fit the boat.

something is wrong with the pictures at my office it loads op nice and you can see it right in the thred .. anyone know what i did wrong?????

I wish I had deep water . it's a duplex but control depth is 3-4 ft and I gotta 10ft bridge :( so thats why I got it for sale..I'm willing to trade for a shack as long as it has deep water any where south of Tampa..there is extra dock space for a small boat under 30ft..

What the heck !
We left Friday for 3 days on a short cruise....
I just got back and that storm, which was heading for Mexico and/or Texas is now projected to come across N. Fla.!
Luckily I'm off all week and our marina is in a great honey hole 35miles inland from the ocean...
But still..... these storms have to start playing "fair".....

A customer of mine who watches the weather says that this storm will likely downgrade over the next few hours. The upper level atmosphere is not conducive to its strengthening, coupled with the storm passing over the mountains if Haiti and Cuba will make it weaker. He is predicting that it may just fizzle out all together and just be rain. He adds: "This is NOT 2004 or 2005. The conditions are just not the same this season for big storm development." Lets hope!

Don't take that bet.

It HAS weakened over Haiti and WILL over Cuba. But if it has a closed rotary circulation coming off Cuba - and I believe it will - it can spin up to a Cat 3 inside of 24 hours. The water there is near 90F and the depth of warm water (and thus total heat content) is EXTREMELY high, as there has been no tropical activity there this year to take any of the heat out.

It would take extreme luck for this thing to rain itself out over Cuba. It could happen, but if you count on that you're likely to wind up with a destroyed house and/or boat.
