Big words stump me? This from a man who can barely operate the simplest of devices, remember what that slot is for on the side of your laptop, Iphones, BOATS,etc. LOL

Maybe you forgot, that some presidents were actually trying to be role models a while back. Maybe, Obama would like to instill some values in our kids today. Kids in the last 15 years have been coddled, put in structured environments, and taught how to pass tests, not to think for themselves or to learn how to learn.

Mobile....Paragraphs would be a good start! :D
What your rant demonstrates is that you actually cared about your children. If they asked you something, I am sure you pointed them in a direction where they could get information to make a decision.

To the rest of you, Do you really think that one press conference is going to turn your kids into, god forbid, liberals? I sincerely doubt that even the most impressionable children are going to start becoming, let's see....Socialists, Marxists, cannibals, and of course, we can't leave out Hitler!

I have no worries about my son. At 16 months old, he is talking, understands commands, reads and counts. At the rate our education is declining, I figure by the time he is six, he should be ready for college.

One other thing..I am not an "Obama Lover"! Just because I voted for him, doesn't mean I agree with everything he is doing. I do understand that he was left the biggest mess in history to clean up and it will take time to clean that mess up. Maybe others can realize that as well.

Wood shed.........This place is too classy for that!:D

In my opinion he's creating the biggest mess in history that someone else will have to clean up. We should be able to agree that the difference in our opinions is a good example why Government should be kept out of our class rooms. You simply can't bring it in without bringing in some of the ideology that goes along with it.

I don't think anyone will argue that the present economic situation is all Obama's fault, but let's not forget the role played by the Demwits in the house and senate under Dubya.

As for him choosing to address our children (without our consent I might add), I've said all I need to say about that. It's not that I'm afraid he's going to even hold the attention of my 6 year old for an hour, let alone change him in some way. It's just the principle of the thing. It's nothing more than another dog and pony show.

BTW, did you read up on this like I asked you to?

Looks like Obama is back-tracking on this one too. He seems to have a recurring problem with being misunderstood.

The Obama administration is rethinking its course recommendations for students ahead of President Obama's address to the the nation's schoolchildren next week, rewriting its suggestions to teachers for student assignments on how to "help the president."

White House aides said the language was supposed to be an inspirational, pro-education message to America's youths, but its unintended consequences were evident.

President Obama's plan to inspire the nation's schoolchildren with a video address next week erupted into controversy Wednesday, forcing the White House to pull out its eraser and rewrite a government recommendation that teachers nationwide assign students a paper on how to "help the president."

Presidential aides acknowledged the White House helped the U.S. Education Department craft the proposal, which immediately was met by fierce criticism from Republicans and conservative organizations who accused Mr. Obama of trying to politicize the education system.

White House aides said the language was an honest misunderstanding in what was supposed to be a inspirational, pro-education message to America's youths.

Among the activities the government initially suggested for prekindergarten to sixth-grade students: that they " write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

Another task recommended for students immediately after listening to the speech: to engage in a discussion about what "the president wants us to do."

The novel curriculum plan brought sharp criticism from conservatives, including some who complained that classrooms were being used to spread political propaganda.

In response, the White House last night confirmed they were revising the lesson plan that was distributed last week by the U.S. Department of Education.

"We're clarifying that language," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said.

By Wednesday evening, the sentence asking children to think about how they can "help the president" had been replaced.

The rewritten line said students should "write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals.

These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals."

Mr. Vietor said the reaction to the lesson plan may not have been so strong had the curriculum been circulated after people heard the speech, which he said does not mention any political issues and does not stray from a clear message encouraging children to excel and stay in school.

The speech is "about the value of education and the importance of staying in school as part of his effort to dramatically cut the dropout rate. It's not a policy speech," Mr. Vietor said.

But the revisions did not appear in time to head off the rapid-fire reaction that spread all day on conservative-oriented talk radio and Web sites. Critics of the president argued that some of the messages included in the " menu of classroom activities" strayed dangerously close to politicizing the classroom.

"While I support educating our children to respect both the office of the American president and the value of community service, I do not support using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda," said Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party.

The conservative radio host Dana Loesch even urged parents to keep their children home on Tuesday, the day Mr. Obama's speech is schedule to air.

Not everyone was outraged by the president's decision to send a videotaped message to America's schoolchildren something President George H.W. Bush did 18 years ago, though without the accompanying homework.

"I can't think of anything less partisan than this," said Mo Elleithee, a Democratic strategist. "It's admirable that President Obama would challenge our schoolchildren to do their best, and it's the kind of message that most level-headed Americans can easily get behind."

Mr. Elleithee called the moral outrage " beyond silly" and said it was " the kind of hyper-partisanship that people so soundly rejected last November."

Longtime political analyst Norman Ornstein said he viewed the strong reaction to Mr. Obama's speech as a sign of the coarsening of American politics.

"The fact that a standard issue speech by a president, with a good, common sense, even conservative message about education, school, hard work and perseverance, is being hit hard by the right tells us how dysfunctional our politics are, how shrill the discourse is getting from the president's foes, and how some people are blinded from common sense by their visceral hatred for Obama and his side of the aisle," Mr. Orenstein said.

The idea of adding a lesson plan to the package of materials being sent to schoolteachers was hatched during meetings between the White House and officials from the Department of Education.

The lessons themselves were developed by educators, White House officials said. But some of the assignments, they later conceded, may appear to be inartfully worded without also knowing the context of the speech.

"Does the speech make you want to do anything?" is one suggested question for the discussion. " Are we able to do what the president is asking of us?"

The packet of activities was sent out electronically with an Aug. 26 electronic letter from U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan. Mr. Duncan encourages school administrators to air the presidential broadcast, which was timed to coincide with the start of school for most of the country.

"The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning," Mr. Duncan says in his letter.

Of the activities, Mr. Duncan added: "These are ideas developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion on the importance of education in their lives."

I was not writing to get a pulitzer prize or to be graded by someone with your views.

Maybe your child will be ready for college by age six, and then he can go to work for the likes of Van Jones or some of Obama's other Czars by the age he is ten.

You don't get rid of a pile of shit by adding more shit,,,,,,the same with the national debt, passing bullshit that keeps costing us trillions of dallors.

Can you read better now that I broke the small paragraphs for ya??

ROFLOL!!!

Blobama does not have a problem with being misunderstood. more correctly he has a problem when we understand what he says. The problem is made worse when he tries to blame it on misunderstanding.

Maybe he can just stop trying to manhandle the country back into the third world and dark ages and allow the hard working Americans who care about their children to teach them values instead of asking the government to do so.

Look at the values of our government. More tax cheats, adulterers and thieves than the local jail, I don't want them to help my kid learn morals and values.

One more thing that needs to be addressed.

I didn't send my kids to others or someplace else to get information to make their decisions. I told them what they needed to know. I was there most nights helping them with their education. Normal people will learn from others, as a normal course in life, but the values and the morals came from me and their mom. My kids know the difference between bullshit and what is right. Keyword being RIGHT!. Maybe biased on this one, but my kids are well liked and admired by the staff at their school and community because they are smart as well as respectful.

Now you can send your child to others for their decision making if you like, they may end up being like so many of the people in this world who think Pork Chops grow in the back of the local grocery store, behind the big wall behind the meat counter.

Paranoid or rule of law,,,,You decide

White House Withdraws Call for Students to 'Help' Obama
Christina Erland Culver, former deputy assistant secretary for education, said presidents have traditionally addressed classrooms on the first day of school, but the problem with the event was the accompanying materials from the Department of Education.

"That's where they kind of got into a slippery spot. Federal statute denies any authority to the Department of Education to provide any kind of curriculum or anything that can be passed down to the state, and that's part of the statute forming the Department of Education. So they kinda got themselves into this mess because they didn't really understand some of the key legal roles or the dos and don'ts at the federal Department of Ed," she said.

So he got caught yet again. Whats new here?

The very idea that the Obama administration didn't see this coming is a great example of the arrogance that runs rampid in him and his administration. These people believe that only a select few right wing nut jobs being brain washed by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News see his policies as destructive.

It wasn't meant as a critique, it is just easier for some of us over forty to read is all. And you have no clue about "my views" so enough with the condescending remarks.

Guess you don't know what the "grin" meant. Sorry if you were offended.

Now, I agree with you about getting rid of a mess by creating a bigger one. That is one of the things I don't agree with Obama on.
As a business owner for over 15 years, I understand the basic principle, more in, less out. It would appear that our government, past regime and the current one, don't understand that simple principle.

I understand what he is trying to do, but, I don't see many cuts in his plans, which means, that someday, when the bill comes due, guess who is going to pay for this?

Nah, nah, nah, don't go changing things up by trying to sound reasonable, you EvilDoing Obama-loving butt-smoker! You fell into the scheming Bird's poison keyboard trap and now you've got to see it out to the 1200-message-post conclusion. Where else will I get my entertainment?!

FWIW, to the point at hand, I think there's nothing wrong with ANY president trying to address school kids at the beginning of the school year with a purely inspirational message about the importance of doing well at school, but boy did he screw the pooch with the heavy-handed aspect of the instructional memos. I think the extent to which conservatives (and even others, I'd reasonably bet) reacted is just testimony to how people's trust of him has plummeted. A more popular president not already suspected of being too overreaching with gov't programs would not have elicited that response.

You could invite a couple of your friends to go diving!(FCB Salute):D

This is already a dead issue. Although, perhaps the President will be a little bit more careful when he unveils his next master plan!

Some of you are really paranoid! You might want to invest in a titanium umbrella. Maybe that will stop the sky from falling on you!

Elementary school huh...well, at least Obama is stepping up from the kindergarten level that the former president was stuck at! I'm sorry, I meant "Pre-K"!

Maybe the current president is trying to get our kids thinking about problem solving at an early age, using their brains. Unlike the former president who said everything is in "gods hands"! (QUOTE MAKO 440)

No we have no clue at all about your views?
