I'm no nut job, but this really angers me!

A suggested lesson plan that calls on school kids to write letters to themselves about what they can do to help President Obama is troubling some education experts, who say it establishes the president as a "superintendent in chief" and may indoctrinate children to support him politically.

Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on Tuesday, which will be the first day of classes for many children across the country. The address, to be broadcast live on the White House's Web site, was announced in a letter to school principals last week by Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

Al Queda stars brainwashing at an early age. He is just following his instructions.

Just another "socialist" platform, here in BC we had a supreme court ruling that
teachers can discuss and answer questions on political parties "agendas", this case was brought to court by our local NDP party prior to an election, ( they were the commies in the 60's) and are totally socialist in their policies. Has that ever been tested in the US or is it allowed in social studies classes??

I hope my son gets the letter as homework. I will help him with that one.

Here's a copy of the email I sent to my son's teacher.

Dear Ms. XXXXX,

It has come to my attention that XXXXX Elementary may be required to have its students watch an unprecedented presidential address which is aimed directly at them. I'm sure there is nothing sinister in this, but I am not comfortable with my son being required to view such an address. I make no bones about the fact I did not vote for President Obama, and I am not impressed with the direction in which he is taking this country. Aside from that, I can see no educational value in having a first grader view such an address.

My wife and I do not discuss politics in front of XXXXX, and I would prefer this to carry over to his classroom environment as to those in authority expressing their political views. I want my son to respect the office and understand the importance of our President, but that's as far as I feel it needs to go. I contacted the school's office, and the lady I spoke with suggested that you would be able to clarify whether or not XXXXX would be required to view this address. Please clarify your stance on this matter at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Sparky1 :D

WOW!!!! Being one to do the unmanly thing, I have no offspring; BUT; like sex ed in the sixties, my parents were required to sign a release for me to attend the lecture.
What the hell is the matter with Washington... BTW, thats a retorical question. I think Scott was right on !! ws

I got a response to that email, and the teacher told me she has no plans to have her class view that address. According to her, she knew nothing about it, and there were no cable sources for TV in her classroom.

It was suggested by a third party that the kids might be rounded up and taken into the gym to view this address, but given the emails which were exchanged, I don't think that would put the school in a very good legal light. Maybe I'll have a way to fund this rebuild after all if they choose to ignore my wishes.

I hope my 17 year old senior gets to write him a letter,,,,,Boy will he be surprised,,,thankfully she has my views but with more feracity sometimes....LOL.... Now the 20 year old ,,,,,once she get through being radicalized in college I will bring back to the fold,,,,,,,to many left wingers teaching our kids to start with,,,,,,,,to bad they couldn't find a real job loading trucks or something in 120 degree weather.....I got to admit though the 20 year old did speak her mind in class, which went on deaf ears with some of her more liberal professors......she stands her ground..

Some of you are really paranoid! You might want to invest in a titanium umbrella. Maybe that will stop the sky from falling on you!

Elementary school huh...well, at least Obama is stepping up from the kindergarten level that the former president was stuck at! I'm sorry, I meant "Pre-K"!

Maybe the current president is trying to get our kids thinking about problem solving at an early age, using their brains. Unlike the former president who said everything is in "gods hands"!

OK...go ahead..........................................:D

Oh and Bird, I mean Sparky, you are a nut job! (FCB Salute) :D

You may want to do a little more reading before you put your foot any further into your mouth. Try reading the bit on the link, and be sure to read the links within the story as well. Pay close attention to the letter which was sent to the principals which went as far as to suggest they decorate the classrooms with notable quotes from Obama.

Once you read all the material, come back and tell me this is not a cheap, political stunt as opposed to something educational. Don't let all those big words stump you, you can do it... yes you can! :D

I'm giving Sam a sticker for his desk. NOBOMA 09 . I bet the teacher looses it.

There should be no more political BS in the schools than learning about the different jobs the elected officials are supposed to do.

Hopefully when Obama speaks to the school kids he will know the proper spelling of potato (or is it really potatoe).

I read the link from Fox News and didn't find anything suspicious. I usually tune out about 75% of Fox "news" (I use the word losely) as crap anyway - didn't even need to do that here.

Don't talk to your kids about politics? Wow that's really preparing them to be tomorrows leaders.

My 10 year old does not need to be turned into a tree hugging socialist libertard by his teacher. learning about the political structure is one thin. Discussing the politics of the HSIC is another.

It's bad enough that most kids like the idea of sharing but don't know the work involved in earning.

FWIW I am the only one allowed to poison my child's mind with political idealism.

HSIC= head Socialist in charge

I almost used HMIC (head muslim in charge) but did not want to let anyone think I mistyped a rather racist acronym.

The teachers will probably have the boys dress as swamis and the girls in burkas...
Now, now, from here on in, we need a wood shed here too!! ws

"Some of you are really paranoid!"

Being Paranoid has nothing to do with it. What it does have to do with is anyone with a child who is being endoctrinated with a political view by what ever means at these ages. I agree with teaching them what the offices of the House of Congress are and the branches of the government. It may even be nice if the president encourages kids to learn all they can and to achieve goals for themselves. But the crap I read goes much further than that. How many truths and left turns has this man made since he became CIC. Not many that count. How much smoke did he blow up all those asses that are now regretting they spread their cheeks. I want my kids to get an education to better themselves. Reading, writing, math, science, all of which both of mine have excelled in. I taught them to learn as much as they could, I encouraged them to stand their ground for what they believe in but to be respectful in doing so. I drilled into them that they could become whatever they wanted to be but it came at a price,,,,,,hard work and deligence. They may have even decided to be teachers because of me, as when they would come home complaining that the teachers weren't doing a good job of explaining some of the more difficult things, I simply told them that if they didn't like it to get the education and come back and improve the system, and be a good teacher. My oldest at NC State talks about the professors who were always voicing their liberal and somewhat radical views,,,,,she would take the ridicule to give the conservative side. Point being she shouldn't have to put up with the radical crap,,,,not what we are paying for but what we are getting with our higher education system. My youngest also stands her ground.

Point being I guess is,,,,,you blow smoke up my ass if you want to try. I know when to pinch it. But don't F#$% with my kids, that is when someone needs to start getting paranoid

Big words stump me? This from a man who can barely operate the simplest of devices, remember what that slot is for on the side of your laptop, Iphones, BOATS,etc. LOL

Maybe you forgot, that some presidents were actually trying to be role models a while back. Maybe, Obama would like to instill some values in our kids today. Kids in the last 15 years have been coddled, put in structured environments, and taught how to pass tests, not to think for themselves or to learn how to learn.

Mobile....Paragraphs would be a good start! :D
What your rant demonstrates is that you actually cared about your children. If they asked you something, I am sure you pointed them in a direction where they could get information to make a decision.

To the rest of you, Do you really think that one press conference is going to turn your kids into, god forbid, liberals? I sincerely doubt that even the most impressionable children are going to start becoming, let's see....Socialists, Marxists, cannibals, and of course, we can't leave out Hitler!

I have no worries about my son. At 16 months old, he is talking, understands commands, reads and counts. At the rate our education is declining, I figure by the time he is six, he should be ready for college.

One other thing..I am not an "Obama Lover"! Just because I voted for him, doesn't mean I agree with everything he is doing. I do understand that he was left the biggest mess in history to clean up and it will take time to clean that mess up. Maybe others can realize that as well.

Wood shed.........This place is too classy for that!:D

Is this about liberal vs conservative or personality politics vs the rule of law?
Representations that the Obama speech is only about children staying in school, do not appear consistent with the repeated personal references contained in the DOE suggestions for school children.

I cannot speak to cannibals, but national socialist, communists and other dictatorships historically have focused on the personality of their respective fearless leaders and the indoctrination of youth particularily in their veneration of the leader. Our president may be a good man but many of the actions coming from his office give cause for concern. Is it about health care, "social justice", and the enviroment, etc. - or power and control?

From a historical perspective does society gravitate more to feudalism or freedom? Whether it is from the left, right or center, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. In conjunction with listening to the president, read Animal Farm, for instance.

You may want to think about it.

Regards,
Vincent
