Yea, just the cost of disposing of the boat will eat this poor guy for lunch. The newspaper mentioned his name as Tony Veasey of Ft. Pierce. I think we're all in. If this was his home, the devastation triples. I too feel heartbroken for this man.

Well, if it makes any of you feel any better, I was contacted by a guy who claimed he had looked at that boat before this guy bought it. It had been on the market (Craigslist) for quite some time, and the price had been reduced to $9K. I assume this to be true as the guy would have no reason to make this up. He said the boat needed a ton of work, and that the sellers definitely unloaded it on this guy. I guess that's good news in that surely to God, the number of people who have taken an interest in this (here and elsewhere) can raise enough to at least get him back to where he was.

It amazes me how many people have chosen to criticize this guy for all his "mistakes" vs having some compassion for a fellow boater. I'm proud it hasn't happened here, but some of the comments from other sources make me question my fellow man. I mean boaters are known for helping other boaters, right? Hopefully the next video we see will be of him and his grandkids fishing on another boat.

I'm down in Ft. Pierce and made offer through one of the folks trying to organize to take him and his family fishing on my boat. There is a go-fund-me site but no verification that it is going to Tony.

It looks like the man has been through the mill. Cancer perhaps? On top of all of this and his service? If someone starts a go fund me I am in also. Not big bucks but every little bit helps.

A local veterans group is organizing a fund, I'll post details when they become available.

Ditto this. A follow up story on the local news (West Palm Beach) this PM said several groups are actively looking for ways to help.

If someone would be kind enough to keep up with this, and post a reliable destination for donations, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Not that it matters but I am sure that that boat would be insurable. No one wants to insure Chris Craft.

Sent that TV reporter another note this morning and hope to get an update soon.

The company is in the process of becoming a 501(c)3 so that it can legally collect donations to give to Veasey.

Wonder how long that's going to take?

One more thing. I think I have a lead on contacting this guy directly, so I would suggest holding off on sending anything to that organization referenced in that article.

I'm sure Lois Lerner will get right on that. Well, maybe not.

I wonder if Hatteras would be interested in taking lead on this?

You know, it is rather strange they made that comment, "so that it can legally collect donations to give to Veasey", when this outfit is already instructing people to mail them in. Is that not admitting (or at least suggesting) they are already doing something illegal?

I did quite a bit of charitable work in Haiti post earthquake. To say that some people / groups / charities raising money for quake relief were scams would be the mother of all under statements! It' happens frequently.
