Rich or Poor, it's nice to have money....... W.

And as those pictures graphically illustrate, money certainly doesn't buy good taste!

How are you doing Walt? Good to see you back here. I was just thinking today about that evening at Jarrett Bay almost 4 years ago when we had the HOF All-Star (or All-something) team on Incentive. Good times...

That boat looks more like a house than my house does. It's huge.

I wish they built smaller MYs, too. I think it is a good idea. Maybe they will, who knows. A new 53 Hatteras MY would be a welcome addition to the line, not to mention a revival of a grand tradition in size.

Hi George,

I have been lurking on the site but have not posted much... Last two seasons have been tough and busy. Had a new house built and also did some damage to my old bones... I'm fine now and plan to get back to using my boat this season. We did have fun on your boat back at Jarret Bay. I remember it well. Hope to run into you again.....

Not my style either but that does seem the direction most new MY are heading. I think it's a great looking but other than the decorating. Salon layout with the bar is a bit odd but I'm sure there are other options. I love that bridge but not sure about the diner style bar facing sideways.

I looked at the hatteras site and they have a similar set of pics that are probably more mainstream.

Just did the same thing too. All the new Hatts seem to have a more contemporary Euro styled interior, even the SF. See this a lot on the newer Sea Rays too. A member at our club just bought a new 50' Prestige MY and the styling is similar to this. I guess I won't worry too much about this. In 20 years when diesel is $20 per gal and I'm ready to buy a 2014 , I doubt I'll be able to afford to run a 63GT with 1900HP engines. Hopefully I can find a nice used Slane 62 then. Running a boat that big at 30kts and 60gph would be pretty amazing.

Very nice formal décor. My crew could change that fast, I can see it now. Haha. Personally, I like a slightly used casual comfortable look, the dings and scratches just blend in.

The ones I posted were from Hatteras latest Facebook. Most likely, it is going to an owner who had a hand in the design.

I know at times this is like beating a dead horse but there are some realy innovative new boats out there in the 50ft range witha great use of space.

I truely believe that if Hatteras built a top quality 50 MY with more traditional line but still had all these feature and great use of pace it would sell. I'm not a fan of the exterior stying of this boat but its a great layout and packed with great features. The storage and the way the pantry drawers open allow you to get to the stuff in the back of the closet plus the upper galley and swim platform galley are all unique ideas, granted more to fix when it breaks but none the less very innovative.

Along with the boat I'm posting here I also just saw the new Sea Ray 65 flybridge. Talk about a ton of features with forward of the helm sun pads on the bridge etc. Just some cool ideas. Take a look and let me know if anyone has any thoughts on why Hatteras isn't trying this on a 50ft boat or if you believe they will in the near future.

Thanks

Tony

Looks like too many gimmicks to me. Half of it will be broken in 5 years and you won't be able to get parts. No thanks. I'll take a new Grand Banks or Flemming over that.

I agree there's a lot to break and I mentioned that above, but I'm talking more about the layout, the use of space and the efficiency of the boat. Mid Ship Full Beam Master, lots of storage, Aft deck, walkable side decks, Big open windows and Big Doors opening up to the aft deck. I'm not into the gimmicks either but overall they sqeeze a lot of ammentities into a 49' Boat.

Yes, I like the layout, particularly the aft galley. You get lots of midships cabin space due to the IPS drives located back in the stern. However, I bet the engine space is even more crammed than mine with the IPS drives, generator, AC units, water pump, water heater, platform motors, fuel tanks, etc. That reviewer said he'd put 10 people on the FB! Yikes, would be a little rolly-polly in a beam sea. That's a lot of weight to have up that high on such a small boat.

I'm not a fan of hydraulic swim platforms. Too much submerged hardware.

Leather counter tops? I don't understand that. Easily scratched, will mildew if in the south.

I'm with Sky, I'd take a new Fleming 58.

Agreed, many other boat I would rather have, personally wouldn't want this boat. It's just an example to show what can be done and whats available out there. A market share that Hatteras is losing out on. The boat has to many gimmicks, BUT is a good example of whats possible accomidations wise in less than 50ft.

A lot of the gimmicks can be pared back in the ordering process. I like the thought that went into the ergonomics of the boat, how people actually use it; it certainly fits the way we like to use a boat. The only gripe I have from what was shown is the lack of a door from the helm to the side deck. Comparing a 49 to a 58 isn't much of a comparison, though I like the living the living spaces on this Monte Carlo much better than the living spaces on a Fleming 55, which frankly we found unacceptable for our purposes ("great boat to be underway in, too small and cramped to live on').

So no free of Brunswick, it would be fun to see Hatteras clean up this concept in this size range. Our favorite boat in this size is still the Grand Banks 49 Classic or Motoryacht, though now only made as a 47 "Heritage".

Just a reminder how small a Fleming 55 is, here is one docked next to my boat:

We were tied up next to Mr Loui, the new 90, last night at Staniel. Very impressive and good looking boat. Seems a lot bigger than than most European boats that size. More space, more volume...
