WRT to Classic Hatt Zippo's - be sure to completely flush the fuel resevoir. Some of that fuel has been in there for a long time and probably is full a asphetine and algae. I think RACOR has a small prefilter that can prevent reoccurance.

You DON"T want to be caught out in the middle of nowhere without a means to light your smokes.

Who knows what's best as a flushing agent? Marvel M Oil, AFT or brake cleaner? One guys used starting fluid once and upon performing a function test, spent the next hour looking for his cigerette and eyebrows.

.
I'd wait for the results of the fluid analysis before I went to that much trouble. That of course assumes the survey comes back clean and the flame test goes well. Could be a good cadidate for a butane repower. Then begs the question, would propane be a better option?

You forgot about the 30 seconds smoke test or was it 60 seconds?

I usually take a minute or more to light up a good smoke.

That's OK Scott, just be sure it fires immediately and any smoke clears within 30 seconds.

If not, you have to rebuild your Zippo. And you DON"T want to deal with that on top of all the other commissioning activities associated with your new lighter.

The new owner could have Randy run it home for him.

Check that logo for delamination while its being refurbished...

These lighters tend to run hot and may need to be flushed with acid. They also are a known source or blisters. If not stored properly you could end up with a blistered bottom. Don't worry the blisters are only cosmetic and can be left alone.

I May Know of someone that can help. A customer of mine, from Cuba, has a freind , still in Cuba, that rebuilds "Bic" lighters.

Not a big market in the US for such a craftsman, but for a Hat lighter he may come to America. Let me know if I should get in touch of him.

I believe the Zippo Owners manual recommends periodic acid flushing using hydrochloric/muriatic and oxcilic acid. Some folks have used phosphoric with good results too.

Think there is a proceedure in the FAQ section of HOF.

Original poster here, I have decided to keep the lighter since it belonged to my father, maybe I will buy a Hatteras some day since he prices are down. This Forum is a hoot. Jim

Hope it has two wicks. You know... just in case.

Oh well, the OP has had a change in heart (or didn't get any bids :D), so I guess this delivery if off too. Guess I'll have to stick with flicking my bic.

Good choice. The $100 will be gone in an instant but something like that lighter that your dad thought was worth keeping, will be worth much more to you. And yes it will be a nice accessory when you do buy one of these bargain basement Hatteras.

That's funny right there, don't care who ya are...

I was going to say the same but had a change of heart. I think you've been taunted enough.

I bought the $20.00 Hat Zippo on Ebay I was the only person who bid.
Gonna do a total refit over the winter

Send us a couple of photos of the world's tiniest Travel Lift picking it up, and teeny little jackstands holding it up off the table top...very cute.

There was also a Rybovich Zippo lighter promotion, but since they had to be made out of wood, there aren't too many of them left around.....

Whoever said taking a thread off-topic was always a bad thing?
