Randy are you watching this one for me?

Nopers.

(couldn't just say no, it's against the rules... not enough letters)

And the flint needs to be a gallium-arsinide alloy to optimize ignition. You can order them from South Africa. Domestic flints are shown to be 23% less effective.

And im allergic to the zipping fluid. What now expurts

Stop lighting it when you spill it on yourself and that will fix the problem!

DA

Thanks Dan I never though of that.

A very fitting project lighter for HOF'ers. I can see it now, 500 posts on how to properly restore it along with the proper fluid to fill it with. :)

And another 500 posts on whether or not they would restore it.

Actually, I've found them to be 27% less effective, but that seems to make the cigarette last 49% longer with a slower burn rate.

Seriously, by the time you restore that $19 fixer-upper, you could have bought the $100 version that was turn key. Then again, a little wear and tear adds character, and it wouldn't be orginal any more.

Probably a Chinese knock-off that cost the seller $2.00, 'cause we all know the "real" ones cost $100, not $20. <yes, I'm kidding>

Love the smell of Zippos burning!

The lighter restoration would be a good project for one of the lakers up north. easy enough to do over the winter and small enough to bring in the house where it's warm.

Ive got the dremel with a 1/4 buffing tip dripped in Brasso! Have to send it out to the jewelry store to be re-enameled... notice its' missing? Hope I can have it done by spring launch! ws

WRT to Classic Hatt Zippo's - be sure to completely flush the fuel resevoir. Some of that fuel has been in there for a long time and probably is full a asphetine and algae. I think RACOR has a small prefilter that can prevent reoccurance.

You DON"T want to be caught out in the middle of nowhere without a means to light your smokes.

Who knows what's best as a flushing agent? Marvel M Oil, AFT or brake cleaner? One guys used starting fluid once and upon performing a function test, spent the next hour looking for his cigerette and eyebrows.

Does Sams have parts for it?

Make sure that you send the wheel out to a "good prop shop"! Also, don't use reliabuilt injectors, unless you want to buy 2 for each one you need.

You will probably be upside down in it when you are done with this project and have an "unmarketable" lighter when it is finished. Now if you love it and are going to keep it for more than say 10 years, it might be worth it to you.

If you do all that work to it you'll ruin the patina and no serious buyer will even look at it.

Good point Scroddy. I heard some have covered the original finish with white paint (Imron or Awlgrip?) which kills it for the traditionalist.

Maybe a hard chrome refinish would be ok.
