So when we getting more Pictures?
Dont' forget the engine room too ;)

Fair enough. All I've really got right now is a bunch of exterior shots from arriving here in town, but it was an overcast/ugly day.

As far as the engine room, I'm really enjoying cleaning the bilge! I've always owned 30-40yr old boats with Detroits, so cleaning the bilges meant sludge and funk that was seemingly endless. They always turned out better than when I started, but never what I would consider "clean". This boat has no sludge or oil buildup in the bilges! I just can't believe it. One good spraydown with degreaser and a pass with a brush and they are actually clean. I've done both sides of the engine room so far. The genny room is next.

Also, there is a combination of fluorescent lights (good, white light) and regular bulbs (not so bright, yellow light) placed sporadically. I want to brighten it up and I am considering changing the regular bulbs out for those fluorescent replacements to whiten/brighten it all up. I know those new screw-looking bulbs are supposed to last longer, but are they resistant to voltage surges/spikes that bulbs have to withstand on a boat? The sockets are either rated for 100w or 150w, I'll have to double-check but I would think that I could get some really bright white light out of those with the right new-style fluorescent bulbs. What do you guys think?

I use CFLs everywhere on board and they re fine although I haven't tried in te ER?

Are you sure your lights are 120 and not 24v? Usually if you have fluorescent tubes the bulbs will be 24v so you can still see what you re doing in there I'd you loose AC

Hey Byron, I had CFL in the lamp in the salon and it worked fine.....well until the lamp (and everything else) went airborn during the ladies tournament......had many small peices of CFL after that. They make them now with different hues, I have some at the house where the light looks just like incandescent. I look foreward to seeing your new baby!

I want the same white as the tube fluorescent white, not the yellowish "soft white" color of the regular incadescent bulbs. I guess in a CFL it would be either "bright white" or "daylight white", but I am not sure which.

I do see that they make 150W CFL's that only use 42 watts. Does this mean that I could safely use a 150W CFL bulb in a fixture that is only rated for 100watts max because the CFL is only using 42w? What am I missing? I want the brightest white light possible, without overloading the fixture of course.

Yes - you can run a "150W equivalent" CFL in a 100W socket - it's the heat dissipated, and that's 42 watts.

when buying CFLs look at the color temperature on the box, they come in 3 grades. i forgot what it's called but the little diagram is pretty obvious. indeed, for an ER the daylight, white, colder light woudl be good.

indeed the brighter ones will be fine since they pull less power and generate less heat

EXCELLENT! I just read that the sockets are rated for 150W, so I can get some real bright CFL's as long as they fit the fixture. Lowe's only has 75W equivalents and Home Cheapo has 125w equivalents (30w) so I'm going to continue looking into this. I'm thinking that you almost can't have too much light in the engine room.

Thanks guys! :)

Boy posts just getting wiped out all over the place. Posts that don't or shouldn't offend anyone. It's starting to look like posting anything is just a waste of time?

Maybe we can learn something from that, but you guys sure do post some revelant and important stuff though. And to join Byron in his personal happiness is something I'm enjoying.

Brian, unfortunately sometimes the good has to go with the bad. All I know is that it's all good now! Let's keep it that way (at least for this thread anyway) and move forward. :)

Diffrences in opinion arguing that's life. I can see deleting posts with racisim or bad language or even a post that gets very nasty. This thread doesn't come close to any of that. It's there call but if you strive to make everthing on point and pure as the driven snow this place will be very boring and probably lose some good input. Just my opinion.

ok, new direction.....tell us more about the kegerator! Which type of sweet nectar of the gods is chilling as we speak? What do you see in the future or futures (just in case the nectar is making you see double) ha!

Well, unfortunately, this is an area where I have not broadened my horizons (grown up) yet beyond my all-time favorite "regular" brew from the LSU days, Miller Lite. Now, before you guys tell me what trash beer it is, let me explain that I have proven time after dime year after year decade after decade(!) that I can drink as much as I like and I do not get that full or bloated feeling as I do with heavy/dark/imported beers AND I NEVER get a headache! Those reasons have kept me in Miller Lite this far, so until someone shows me better Miller Lite it is. Now, I'm not opposed to trying some small kegs of other stuff. Surely we will dabble this summer, but I will need much help! ;)

I, for one, support this choice. Miller Lite is some good beer, especially for maximum consumption potential. We also like the Canadian stuff up here. Labatts and Molson are hard to beat if you can find it in the bayou.

Miller Lite is my beer.....may I have a glass?

I'll switch from Molson's Canadian to Miller Lite if I may have it on your aft deck please.

Jack...just a galss? are you feeling ok? :)

I like Miller Light it just has a tendancy to disappear......mystery???

I don't normally drink every day, mostly just on weekends unless we c=have company during the week but let me tell you how hard it is to pass that tap up. I've been having 2-3 every evening!

Jack, you can have as many as you like my friend!

Sky, I have enjoyed some Molsen on occasion as well. Good beer!

Sportfsh let me know the next time you're on the Gulf Coast and maybe you can stop by to have that beer on the aft deck!

Now, if someone would just invent a nice little (LED?) guage that I could mount at the bar to show the level of the keg, I would be tickled. Otherwise it's a crap shoot who'll get the last beer or if there's even enough to last if a few friends stop by!

:( E.................F :)

NO, NO, NO....a GLASS (or should I say a Mug) to hold all weekend!! :)
