Sandy has taken my 1968 38'Convertible and planted her in the Jersey side of the Raritan Bay. At high tide the hard top is visible from Route 35 and at low tide the starbaord side of the old girl is visible. Gonna miss the old girl she has been a faithful ride since 1994 for me and no one believed she was that old by the condition she was brought back to.

im so sorry to hear that. in 30 years of boating this was the first time i was really afraid
i wasnt going to have a boat when i got to the yard the day after. i came within about 6 inches
of that reality based on the high water mark on the boat from the storm.
best of luck finding a new ride for new adventures.

That sucks out loud.

We were lucky that the one thing we didn't have to worry about was the boat. In fact it's still holed up and will remain so until at least after the nor'easter.

Best of luck in replacing it.

We were lucky Cricket made it through, water got right to the top of the keel at the stern. Our dock wasn't as lucky. Nothing compared to how many are suffering.cricket11032012yardwaterline.webpHoldenpix11052012all 2023.webp

Hi All,

Larry,

So sorry to hear about Sweet Equity.

I can't imagine how it feels to lose a boat you've cared for and loved for 20 years...

You can't really replace the times and memories accumulated over 20 years but you can start making new ones. Hope you can find another Hatt to treasure.

Keep the dems in and live with the consequences.

Between the unions and the EPA I cant see much getting done in a hurry.

Wasn't the Ethanol legislation a Bush deal? It was proposed by a republican and signed into law by Bush.

Didn't Obama say he would eliminate all red tape to get things moving out there. Seems this is a perfect example of where getting government out of the way would help to solve some of the gas issues.

Why not just suspend the ethanol mandate until things get back to normal?

Well.
They put me on the hard today. Didnt see any more damage then previously spotted. First time being on land made me feel good .

Well wouldn't that just be sensible thing to do

My God have you lost your mind suggesting a sensible recommendation ;)

Just smack yourself and stop that :D

Cricket that picture of your boat wrapped like that makes me very nervous!
Lots of big areas of plastic up against the paint. That will cause paint to blister

Hi All,

A couple of more images just taken an hour or so ago....

Image 1 is an example of the massive fishing fleet that runs out of New Bedford. These 3 are owned by the same person. New Bedfords inner harbor is PACKED with monsters much bigger than these three.

Images 2 and 3 I thought Jack might find interesting. Looks like a 65C. Have never seen it at Fairhaven Shipyard before. Jack, any chance you know the boat?

Jack,,,,,wondering if you might know the boat in images 2 and 3 (see page 1 post # 30)

Not familiar with that 65 but the name is familiar. There was one for sale up that way a couple of years ago, that may be the one.

Saw today an interview with a resident in N.J. where he said "Florida is supposed to get these storms, not us"...

That's OK...we pay for a storm every year with our five figure annual marine insurance premiums whether we get them or not.

That's funny she is so stupid its funny.

They have been saying we were due most of my life well guess it happened.
Just never thought it would be the end of October.

If they think it does not happen up here goggle Hurricane of 1938.

Angela I am afraid we will be sharing that higher rate real soon.

ConEd strategic planner response to my question twenty years ago about what would happen with another 1938 Long Island Express. "Just about everything seaward of the Southern State Parkway would be destroyed, luck is a wonderful thing."

Sad part is there was no reason for the damage to Staten Island, Hudson located NJ, and Manhattan. London, Rotterdam and many other great cities have hurricane flood gates, we could have had them also. But, just too stupid, cheap or shortsighted I guess.

No, FARSIGHTED. This way the Feds, and all of us, will pay for it. No problem!

Plus they got free urban renewal and much of their toxic waste got washed to sea. (We'll also pick up the cost for the remainder.) Hang on to your wallet!
