X2! Glad all is well

Thanks for concern. We left the beach and went to a big house that is 21# above the water. I was sure that there would be total destrruction. I was without words when I got a message that every thing was safe. I said a prayer !

That's great news, Dave. Kinda like getting shot at and missed. You feel OK, but not really great. My brother finally got a look at a sat shot of Key West. His place there is at least still standing and has a roof on it. No word on flooding damage yet. My daughter's inlaws in Venice came through unscathed.

The more info and pictures i get or see, the worst it looks around coconut grove. It's so bad that i dont even know if we re going to be able to get in and tie to our tee head tomorrow. There are sunken boats everywhere

Again, fetch. This is grove harbor marina which along with its neighbor Montys, has zero protection to the E adn is wide open to biscayne bay. With just 20 kts, you get 1 footers in there. I used to run a 70 fotter docked there and even for only a 30kt tropical atorm i would move the boat These two sportfish arent the only casalties

This instagram page will you an iea of the scope of the damage, click load more at the bottom and just ingore the damn selfies

Still... A bunch of smaller boats, many of which are "open" CC type boats prone to flooding are seen floating peacefully at their docks after the storm, yet the big Bertram and Hatt, with multiple redundant systems and 8' of freeboard pointed into the direction of the wind are on the bottom.

Pascal, have you heard from Mario? Where did he end up putting his boat?

I think the newer CCs have much better bilge pumps and batteries along with improved drainage. They have less windage too. Windage on the big SF is huge and the slips way too narrow.

John, mario is fine, he ended up at a floating dock in tampa with good protection and by that time the storm had weaken

Glad to hear that. How's your 53? Damage pretty much as you said in your other post? Boy that was a great call to go east!

In 04 most of the cc sinkers ended up at Coparts in FTPierce for auction. I noticed that the boats with the walk Thur transomes would hole at the area where the rubrail tapers to the waterline at the transom. Boats that had a full transom had damage but didn't sink for the most part. I think it was due to where the boat impacted the dock or piling was at the waterline instead of up at the top of the gunwale

Port rubrail is ripped off and fiberglass is worn thru over about 20'. Two portholes pushed in (where the old mid ship stateroom used to be) with cabinetry damage inside but I was going to redo that whole side anyway. Also have some damage near the ER vent. A good chunk of the teak railing is gone along with most of them boards under.

Yard has confirmed that my haulout is still on on the 29 for the repower Now that the port side is all scratched up I m going to repaint the hull.

Here is a time lapse coming in the marina from
Eleuthera.

The water is a mess, even the Gulf Stream was a weird milky color. Halfway thru we came across a 28' sailboat that was adrift. We took it under tow for 10 nm but the line chafed and parted. By then there were some swell and it wasn't worth dock any acrobatics to secure another line. Notified th USCG and I was also able to track the owner thru the CG documentation database and then on Facebook Hope he can find a way to retrieve it.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Hopefully it's a straightforward repair. Rough video to watch for boaters.

Has Angela checked in yet?

Agree...that is hard to watch. Thanks for posting.

I ve been touch. I saw her boat today she s got some run rail damage too with a 3 or 4 foot breaches section, a severe case of dock rash and swim platform damage. I only took one piling, I think she destroyed two :)

Been lucky in pirates cove Jacksonville.
Bust Antenna, wind shield wiper, and swim platform bracket. Sail boat dragged when wind swung to
SE, 50 yards was close but they managed to get anchor up and motor away, which made for a tense hour. NAS reported gusts up to 70. Had to port main slow ahead for 3 hours to keep from being pushed back onto dock.
Sail boat tied beside enjoyed being in my lee. He slept better than me.

Well, better the Hatt destroying pilings than the other way around. Sucks about the damage though.

Hope everybody gets things straightened out ASAP.

Great news for us. Chateau de Mer was high and dry at River Forest Stuart and had no damage AND no leaks.... not even a drop. RF did a wonderful job of tucking the boat in, had the canvas and carpets stowed below and all looks great. It will stay there another month with the dehumidifier running.

The Angler CC was on her trailer under a shed and is also A-OK.

Our condo docks did not fare as well and are getting some reconstruction. I'm not sure the slip will be ready when I am and we may just leave the Hatteras on the hard until it is. A nearly derelict ~35' sail boat in Kitching Cove broke it's mooring line and is wedged into our north dock and is lying on it's side in the mangroves. The owner was located and promises to remove it, but the keel looks to be well planted. I'd bet he would give it away if someone wanted it.

So many sailboats we're lost considering they have so much less windage where they just not tied correctly

Seems to be a common problem. We have some that are anchored nearby, seldom see anyone onboard tending the boat.

In this case, the mooring lines had no chafe protection at the gunnels so they wore through. This one was not one of the really rough liveaboards that are al over Florida, but a boat that the owner hasn't used in a long time. I reported it to marine police a long time ago, but nothing was done about it. So now it becomes a problem.
