What's everybody in Fla doing about Irma?

I suppose we're far enough ahead of the big crash that there aren't that many owners headed toward Irma vs away from it. That's bound to help traffic flow on the water a little. 😀

Seriously, best of luck to all of you who are having to deal with this mess. Nothing about this situation looks good.

We changed our plan and are staying put in Punta Gorda. The spot we reserved at Glades RV and Marina in the OW may be available, call Rick if you're looking.

Was a long day today .... picked up 1500 gal of diesel for the 84 I run th had to pull the mast from my 26' gaffer. Couldn't get a crane so I brought her alongside the 84 and used the davit to pull the mast. First time I tried that but it worked. Then brought her behind a house deep into the coral gabled waterway. Well tied up in a well cut into the limestone, narrow canal. Should be ok

Then I had to turn the hatt around so she faces north, bow out. Without engines it's bit challenging but with the help of a tender and some creative line worked, it went well...

If th forecast holds, we ll bring the 84 to the west coast down thru the keys on Friday. Problem is that there is no dockage available anywhere in Naples, ft Myers, etc... Tampa maybe our closest option. We ll see.

Looks like mario is going the same thing with his 58YF. We re going to try to hook up... maybe we'll raft up for a big hurricane party somewhere.

But who knows... if th eforecast shift back west by tomorrow, we may stilll run to great harbor Cay or Eleuthera.

Honestly if so fl gets hit by a strong cat 5 raking the whole coast, loosing a boat doesn't really matter as it will take 10 years to recover. Miami alone has 25 tall cranes that will come down causing incredible damage.

Is there nothing available at Legacy Harbour or up the river anywhere like river forest, glades, or Roland Martin?

Don't know about Roland Martin or Glades but River Forest is Hurricane Club members only. Same thing with Indiantown Marina.

See my post above about a possible spot at Glades.

Place on the lake like Roland Martin makes no sense as its way too close o the east coast and the likely track... even the other ones east of ft. Myers are too close.

This storm is a big headache as the track is so uncertain. At this point th closest point outside of the cone of death is Eleuthera. :(

Interesting to see how those ultra modern condos and the general "concrete jungle" on Brickell Ave. and Biscayne Blvd. hold up to 140-150 mph winds and a 15 foot storm surge.

The buildings will probably hold up...probably with some damage but shouldn't be too severe. The cranes IMO will be history and as stated in a previous post will probably cause some costly damage or worse. I hope none of you folks get hurt. Boats can be replaced, even Hatteras' but people cannot. Please take extreme care and be careful.

I lived through George in 98 in Puerto Rico. The cement buildings did just ok. Many had the roofs ripped off. My coworker lived in a high rise on the beach and he lost all he stuff when his windows blew out luckily he was off the island. He came back to an empty apartment his belonging went right out the sliding doors.

Those looking for west coast fl try Tarpon Point Marina 239-549-4900 Rick is the harbor master. Moved my boat to the new floating docks yeasterday from my fixed slip there. I don't know what they have left but there were several open slips yesterday.

Help me out here, maybe I'm missing something but what's wrong with heading to Isla Mujere /Cancun area of Mexico . Hell, it's 335 NM from Key West and damn near the same from Miami to Tampa. The possibility of getting of no damage and staying anywhere on the Florida peninsula looks unlikely. .........Pat

In Stuart and cannot find anywhere to go. Called South to WPB and North Vero and nothing available. Getting very, very tense...

From Stuart, the Okeechobee Waterway is an easy trip. MAybe get inland and find a good spot?

I called them along with about 2 dozen marinas all the way to Clearwater. NObody is taking transients... so, if by tomorrow the NHC track shows the center passing close to the east coast, I will anchor out in a spot with protection from N and NE around ft Myers, Charlotte harbor or near Tampa

If it looks like it will turn late and get to close to the west coast then we ll keep going up to the panhandle. We have about 900nm range at 10kts so I can run up to 200nm at 20/25 and then finish at 10kts

Contrarily to the doomsday graphic seen on tv, hurricane force winds rarely extend beyond 50/60nm especially on the left side... 60 kts in a decent anchorage is fine, done it before.

Hurricane Katia? I know, it's going into Mexico. But I'd be a bit leary.

Found a private dock in st Pete. Heading out first light tomorrow (too risky to run at night thru the keys with thousand of pots)
