  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
Pretty amazing boat. I can't wait to see what Hatteras comes up with to compete with this model. Notice in the video how the hull is up on top and clear of the water. To get a boat the size on top it must really be moving, I'd say 30+ Knots. Enjoy.

She looks a little top heavy to me. I don't think its the best looking boat Viking has built in my opinion. Viking is always changing the size of there boats by one foot.

Too much deckhouse. And looks like she's squatting while running.

Seriously?

Getting 92 feet of boat to perform like that is extraordinary. She appears to lean in to turns without any pronounced roll and backs down like a champ. Would be great to see video of her in some weather.

I am clearly a Hatteras partisan but you have to give viking their props. Hatteras has their work cut out for them to beat this thing. Some of the new lightweight build tech they are deploying will help I'm sure, no idea whether viking is using the same infusing systems but at 195,000 lbs she is no lightweight.

As far as designs she looks clean, sleek and appears very well proportioned to me given she is an enclosed bridge model... which always look heavy up top to me. The Viking website has a 92 open bridge model that is better looking IMHOP. Admittedly she is without the traditional design cues I love in the Hatt GT's but if you are looking for a mega battlewagon, hard to argue that this would not be at the top of anyones list.

I think it's the way she looks running in that video. If you see the boat she looks very well proportioned. To me it's the first enclosed bridge Viking I've seen that looks right. It's a massive boat that is hard to gauge unless you see something next to it to compare to. It's a great looking boat that will make somebody a very proud owner. I think she has the optional 2600HP MTU 16V2000 M94 package. I'm sure she can get up a go.

Not if they want to fish the marlin Capital of the world Hatteras N.C. It draws to much watter the inlet is only about 5.5 feet and the feds have cut off funding for the dredging..... That kinda tuff 5mil fishing boat dezined to fish a not able to.

Draws 5'11" with standard power. I'm sure once she fully outfitted it's well over 6'. If I remember correctly, base price is around 7.8 mil and the MTU's add another 775K to that. So I guess around 9 mil should get you one!

YEP AND STILL CAN NOT FISH HATTERAS OR Ocracoke with that kind of a draw. At lease with a loose but hole. Sorry just had to add that

For all of everybody's bashing of balsa core I see Viking is still using it:
In the hull bottoms no less.
I think most if not all new Vikings have balsa cored bottoms. I think they started doing that in the mid 2000's

Viking does use balsa coring in their hull bottoms which is one of the major differences between Hatteras and Viking. The new resin infusion that Hatteras is using will help some with the weight difference. I have seen some demonstrations of simulated impact on both types of hulls. I will stay with the solid hull.

She's a looker - that's for sure. Viking is a great company and even with the Hatt/Viking rivalry, the boating industry is better off with Viking and this new 92EB. My guess is if your a serious fisher, your not building much over 60', likely in the 50' range. More responsive to fish and you can get between NC and Isla Mujara pretty easy. This boat is gonna travel. If the owner is a serious fisher - I bet you see this boat on the west coast, Central America, South America. Otherwise I bet you see her between Atlantis and Nantucket Boat Basin.

Balsa coring in the bottom? I wish you were kidding.

I hope they at least fitted a sea chest for all the raw water intakes.

Tim, What inlet is only 5.5ft now? Hope it doesn't get any shallower or it could kill alot of jobs in the area.

It already is causing problems. Oregon inlet is the one I believe Tim is speaking of. The inlet itself isn't too bad but the channel under the bridge (which is really part of the inlet) is very shallow. Last I heard, Ocracoke is still OK.

Sounds like the local government, or local Chamber of Commerce better get together with all the local businesses and come up with a plan. If not it will cost the local economy Millions. I never liked to run those inlets when delivering a boats anyway. Now hearing that I would avoid it unless I had no other choice. I'm sure many other travellers without the daily local knowledge would feel the same way. Hopefully they get it resolved.

They dredge Oregon Inlet constantly. I am down there six or seven times a year and there is always a dredge working in that area. The current is so strong that earlier this year it had scoured the bottom clean away from some of the bridge pilings; they had to install rock and steel mesh and pump sand and mud back in under the pilings.

There are plans for a new bridge, as the old one is at the end of its life, and construction has begun. It will be interesting to see where the inlet ends up. The new bridge will be west of the existing one, is my understanding.

Why o' Why do the new boats have a stupid sliding glass window in the hull?

It's Searay thing that seems to be catchin on......

It looks like the way the hull sides taper and get thinner towards the cockpit makes it appear to run bow high, but really it's running pretty flat.

Even sitting still the taper makes it appear bow high.

THE SKINNY ON HATTERAS INLET

In fact Jack I was talking about Hatteras inlet. The Organ inlet is a ever changing Inlet But Organlet inlet fishing center uses it daily and Pirates Cove uses it also, I can not speak for that one. However i spent three months in Hatteras at the Hatteras Marlin club. (by the way the fishing was just grate) The Hatteras inlet is approximately 3 to 4 miles away from Hatteras village fishing center where 4 Mariners are lockated, where approximately(90% of the hatteras sport fishing boats are docked. The North Carolina HWY dept runs a ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke and back about 4 during summer and less during winter. Each making about 4 to 5 trips a day, They the state kept the chanel open a dredge lived there because of the ferry. The ferry route has changed and now only about 1 mile of the ferry chanel and fishing boats jointly share leaving about 2 to 3 miles not tended to by the state. Cirrently or when i left about a month ago the locals were marking the chanel with crab pot floats. Yea that is right the locals and crab pot floats. It is not all bad as the ferry chanel leads to The ajoining island Ocracoke and the fishing boats can use that chane but it adds about 20 to 30 more minutes time to the run to the inlet. But to get to the ferry chanel is still up to the locals keeping it marked.
When i was there the decision to stop dredging was anounced at a called meeting at the town.It effects a big portion of the people to live there and a big part of the towns total business.
I would follow a local charter boat out and they would say stay closs but the white watter from the boat ahead did habbit with the depth gage. At times i did not want to see it.
While i was there at least 8 to 10 hard headed guys did not belive the mariner owners and set out by them selves and yes they got it. Every thing from just bent props to struts torn out. The other problem help is a long way away the biggest haul out on Hatteras is 45000 pounds and that is all he will attempt. Bigger has to go across the bay to Spencer Yachts or one or two more around Kittyhawk.. That all i know guys. Except i will return next year Yes Tobey eaven if you do not want to come.
