They dredge Oregon Inlet constantly. I am down there six or seven times a year and there is always a dredge working in that area. The current is so strong that earlier this year it had scoured the bottom clean away from some of the bridge pilings; they had to install rock and steel mesh and pump sand and mud back in under the pilings.

There are plans for a new bridge, as the old one is at the end of its life, and construction has begun. It will be interesting to see where the inlet ends up. The new bridge will be west of the existing one, is my understanding.

With the loss of Senator Basnight (not dead just very sick and unable to serve its going to be tuff he carried a lot of weight in state government. He also respected the water and what it ment to the eastern part of the state. Not to mention he had several trawlers and a very large sea food restaurant just at the beginning of the famous hwy 12

Sounds like the local government, or local Chamber of Commerce better get together with all the local businesses and come up with a plan. If not it will cost the local economy Millions. I never liked to run those inlets when delivering a boats anyway. Now hearing that I would avoid it unless I had no other choice. I'm sure many other travellers without the daily local knowledge would feel the same way. Hopefully they get it resolved.

As i understand they are working on it from a lot of diffrent angle. It actually involves 3 inlets Organ Hatteras & Ocracoke. They say both federal and state money has been cut out or at least a hunk.

This boat is amazing! i love the sky bridge but it has to be scary to be there while the captain goes full speed.

Amazing the interest in the 70 to 100 ft. sportfishers. Viking always seems to be a few steps ahead of most builders. Good looking rig, wonder how many gyros are humming under the deck.
