Very nice Tom. Did you notice any improvement? I did something similar years ago but they were about 48 &15 inches and I installed them on a 43 DC. Tremendous improvement.

Another thing I do is I install my zincs so that only the round head of the screw obstructs water flow and the half zinc is on top of the tab not in the water flow. Probably doesn't matter much on our boats but I still have a bit of race boat mentality from the 1950's

hi Walter ...i need to have new Trim Tabs made to help me get more lift ...where did you get them made

Hi Joe,

We (my son and I) made them ourselves. It may be worth checking with Bennet. They might be
able to help you out. They are set up for it. Call me if you have no luck and I'll talk to my Son. He
has a fabrication and machine shop.

thanks Walt....i looked up Bennett Trim Tabs yesterday and it looks like they can make them but if not i will call you...

Great Joe.....I would make them probably at least 15" long, probably more. It essentially adds to the water line length and should give you much more lift aft. The folks at Bennett should be able to advise you about the amount of cylinders and pump requirements as there will be substantially more pressure on the larger trim planes. I wish you success with this project...please keep up informed regarding progress and results.. As you probably realize the downside of larger tabs is they should be completely retracted in following seas and going into inlets.

Walt i have spoken with Bruce Morison about my issue and he told me that adding 1" more to the width should make my boat plane i also looked at the Bennett web sight and read that the Trim Tabs should be 1" long for every foot of boat length so for me they should be 56"x12" next time my diver comes i will have them measured so i know what i have....if that is what i have i will need to make them wider would love to see my up on plane...

Joe,

Sounds good but can you get 56" in a straight (or reasonably straight) line? A lot of the wild race boats have them sticking out from the stern much longer than wider. If you can you should consider more than 12". Just be sure your actuators are up to the task. With 56" you will probably need three cylinders per tab to contend with the high water pressure. Sounds like a great project, please keep us in the loop as you progress.

Walt
