Time To Take A Stand

I see the unions cut a new deal on health care..reduction in the cadillac tax..

... this administration...... IMHO they represent the greatest threat. More so than banks more so than Islamic extremists or anything else I can think of.

Well said. If we allow them to continue to take away our liberties, it won't matter what anybody else does.

Randy I think your wrong. The overwhelming majority of Americans Identify themselves as conservatives or center right.
So is in your contention these folks just didn't show up at the polls in 2008?

I don't know where you are coming up with your statistics, but it could be a case of many Americans claiming to be conservative or right of center when deep down they've decided that gubment cheese might be pretty tasty. I know some will view this as racist/elitist... whatever, but there's no denying birth rates and how they are changing the balance of power.

Our politicians are a direct reflection of the voters who put them into office. We've spent the last couple of decades or more dumbing down America as to level the playing field, and it has worked. The Pepsi generation brought us Obama along with a bunch of retards.

Yes the folks lookin for the gubmint cheese showed up like never before no argument. But they're aren't near enough of them to control an election. Everyone who voted for BO is not a freeloader or cool aid drinker. There are lots of people who simply wanted change. The moderates on both sides are the people that decide elections. Those moderates have already gotten a taste of an intelectual liberal and they're rejecting it and the polls show that. BO has the highest dis aproval rating of any other past president at this stage in his presidency. The record keeping began in 1938.

The problem now is that moderates don't tend to be news junkies and they're often not aware of what happening because except for FOX no ones reporting it.

Believe me I'm not normaly a person who takes up causes but I'm just peed off I've had it. This morning I ran 200 copies of the links I posted here. My daughter and I handed them out at our local shopping center. We dumped all 200 within 30 minutes we could have easily dumped 1000. I'm telling you the reaction was amazing I probaly heard about 100 holy craps or oh my gods. THE AVERAGE PERSON DOESN'T KNOW WHATS GOING ON WHEN THEY DO THEY WILL BE PEED OF ALSO I'm certain of it.

Hedgehog, the problem is that we DIDN'T fix it and they DIDN'T actually pay back anything with actual earnings. The fraudulent loans are still there and still uncovered - we just made legal accounting fraud (in March.)

This IS a fine.

Anyway, see the Ticker I posted - I've had it and am working on coordinating lawful citizen actions to put a stop to this.

It is not really that simple. Actually most of this was not technically a fraud. Bad practice but not fraud. Now there is a bunch of fraud that occurred on the underwriting side. That was done by a bunch of mortgage companies and a lot of them are not around anymore. Once the paper came through it was securitized in the form of private label CMO's. There are different priorities of that paper and a bunch of it is still AAA rated (and some rightly so). A significant amount of that has been downgraded appropriately as delinquencies and loss are on the rise. If you are mad at anyone for not recognizing that....well you can blame Moody's and S&P. Once that stuff is downgraded to junk then the market price declines and EVERYONE has to show their cards.

So who owns that paper? Banks, insurance companies and fund managers. They ALL have to reflect the fair value.

It is the attitude of just blanketly wanting to tax people that is the problem. It is kind of like swatting at gnats. They are talking about this and totally ignoring the pending problems in the insurance agencies that hold the commercial MBS paper that is going bad now. If you want to see some bad practices you should look there. Who do you think holds the paper on all of these unoccupied strip centers you drive by? Some is securitized and some is not. Banks have the wrong asset/liability mix to hold this so it is mostly owned by the insurance companies. Banks do underwrite this stuff on an interim basis, but they assume the construction risk. Once it has been stabilized, the insurance companies take it. The securitized stuff has to be reported on a fair value basis just like the private label CMO's. The whole loan paper on the other hand does not. In the case of a bank (for the ones that got stuck with this paper before it made perm financing), they have to either reserve losses as risk level increases or write it down. Many times it has to be re-appraised to reflect current occupancy levels and they have to write it down to that value way before it even becomes delinquent of goes into foreclosure. Insurance companies are regulated in a different manner (although the same accounting regs apply). They usually don't take the losses until they bring in on as real estate owned after foreclosure or deed in lieu. THEN they take the hit. And it is coming.

No, I agree it is not fixed and slapping a tax on the big banks is not going to fix it. You call it a fine? I am not sure why you want to single out banks for this. The problem started with govt, was perpetuated by the mortgage companies, spent some time on banks as well as investment bank's balance sheets and is now all over the place. It is this sort of reactive and not proactive govt that helped us get into this mess. The same sort of reactive govt will keep us there. Heck, now that I think about it, we have not really even started to fix it and the administration is fooling around with trying to cram down health care reform in a way that many or most of us don't want.

Now if you want to get into the discussion of off balance sheet credit derivatives (as opposed to on balance sheet derivatives that are part of the above statements), well that is a whole other topic but I will gladly go there too.

No, this tax is a stupid idea and will not fix a thing. It is a ploy to appeal to the public that does not understand how this all fits together and the same time grab some more money to spread around. We need to FIX and not TAX.

Even if your a person like me who does not understand the above. You can understand that selectivly taxing any group banks included is wrong. It's my understanding that some banks that paid the TARP back with interest will be taxed along with some that never took any TARP. Then some that have not Paid TARP back and institutions like AIG and Fanny and Fredy will not be taxed. And you can also understand that a tax fixes nothing and the cost of the tax will be passed down to all of us.

Following is what I posted Jan 28/09 .......sad to see too much of it coming true...

During the run up to the election I posted a comment of the Canadian experience with a social democratic type leader our Pierre Elliot Trudeau, affectionitly known as "PET" the ladies loved him, in my opinion and I believe history proves me right, when he came to power the country had no debt, when he left we were damn near broke and liberalism had run amok in our institutions, (still does).
I think Obama and his co horts will virtually bankrupt America and their programs will turn full circle and go right up you know where.
Rush has it right, and I as an outsider who loves and admires the American people it is scary to see the disaster and mistakes being made ahead of time and no one seems to have any common sense any more, specially elected officials.
Our Liberals in Canada are so upset at losing the last election they are attempting to form a coalition of minor parties and try to overthrow the current Government which to it's credit has done a reasonable job over the past 3 yrs.
Those damn socialists just cannot stand being not in control of peoples lives.

Dang Brian, what Koolaid are you drinking? Only facts you scare up are from Fox News.... One source and you claim thinking man privileges (I was taught to look at both sides as a kid)? And no I am not knocking you personally, just the claim made and of course the biased and unrepentant source of Fox News (my opinion but then again I am beginning to like MSNBC for their commentary too (as well as the BBC, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, ABC Radio, Air America et al...) .

As for Karl, I am moving again from a big bank (thanks Karl). I can remember waking up with Chase as my bank (again)....

Noel That's the beauty of facts there is only one side. If you think I'm drinking the Koolaid then point out the information in the links I've posted that is not factually correct. Not the opinion but the actual facts. If you can't do that then I'd say your the one on the Koolaid. My purpose here is not to argue with idiots but only to present what's going on that I think is harmful. I'm not trying to present the good in this administration because it's already so heavily reported by your favorite news organizations. I only seek to present the bad stuff as I believe an awful lot of people don't get that info. Unfortunately for all of us the only network that presents these facts is Fox.

Now Noel lets keep our finger crossed and our eyes and ears on the Mass election today. I just know your hoping Brown will pull it off and the will of the people will prevail regarding Obama's health care bill. You do believe in the will of the people right?

Yeah, More power to the people!!! LOL, I find that there are better sources for the "right" than the far right wing approach from fox. And if you want to know, I actually prefer to get my news from sources overseas as well as here.

That's funny you can't point out any inaccuracies in the links themselves so you knock the provider. So I guess your the true Koolaid drinker. It's this kind of stuff that's causing this administration to fail. They're simply aren't enough mindless ideologues to keep it alive and that's a good thing.

Brian

No, Just in the middle of working too much to glance at this moment. And I hate koolaid. Nespresso coffee though... :)

So you criticize me for posting information you haven't even read? Give the Koolaid another try I'm thinking you'll like it.

Brian

That's the way with the Koolaid. It affects thier memory and judgement. In fact, most of them don't even realize that they drank it. :)

Great thread, Brian. Keep the facts coming.

No, I stated you only had a single source. And that it was not unbiased at all in my opinion. Actually I find Fox News totally biased to the "far right". And they never do a retraction it seems.

As for the Koolaid, I said I never drink it. On the other hand seems you do protest too much at times and have more time than I do at this point so....

LOL chill, soon you can blame Ma for everything. And remember, Obama ain't got started yet. Soon he will Nationalize all businesses (ya thunk?)

You just don't seem to understand much of anything. I would not disagree with you that Fox has a bias to the right. The point is that to the best of my knowledge the information I posted is accurate. In fact everything I posted was also reported on some of the news sources with a bias to the left (the sources you like). It's just easier to find this stuff on Fox. It appears you just don't like to see that information posted. Un able to challenge it's accuracy you take the junior high route and criticize me for posting it and that only makes you look foolish. As I said earlier I'm not here to argue with idiots so enjoy the Koolaide.

I think I struck a nerve. Nor did I state that I challenged anything other than the fact you seem to sit in front of the boob tube and watch Fox News. If you are presenting facts, and only use a single source to prove your side of the argument, then in fact you have no verification of the facts per se.

As for High school, your reports were all written from a single source when you turned them in?

Sheesh
