Tim Powell in the Game at Big Rock!

Our own master of typography and elocution, and generous provider of speckled trout to yours truly, Tim on his vintage 52c "We III" had a catch and release of a blue marlin today on the first day of the Big Rock tournament. So a big shout is due to one of our own, this $1 million dollar event goes on through Saturday, so let's bring 'em home Tim!

Under 400lb and you have to release. Today a 410, a 610 and a 754 were brought to the dock. The 754 took 5 hours to land, who knows what it weighed when hooked as it is 7" (10'9" vs 10' 2")longer than the tournament record of 831#. Very busy day compared to recent years. Of 117 boats, there were 12 blues and 18 whites released today. Though I never fished it, our marina was and is a hub for a lot of boats who do, both locals and visitors, really missing the scene this year. I used to move over a slip so all the Spencers could be together.

Just off the phone with Tim. Caught one as mentioned above, had another pulling drag but lost it
shortly after hook-up ended up 1 for 2. He was fishing an area 75+ miles from Morehead off of
Hatteras and was within 1 - 1 1/2 miles of the boat that caught the 754lb. Fishing tomorrow and
I know all of us are wishing him the best of luck......Go get em Tim!!!!!!

I was considering a 68 Buddy Davis that had damage due to a lightning strike 2 boats away. Estimate was 150K just for the Cat ECMS and electronic gauge package.

Friends 72' Jim Smith docked in Stuart, FL was damaged by a strike that hit water not boat. The
current traveled to the seachest, damage done, $168K and six months later he was on his way
back to Eleuthera. Travelers (Smith-Merritt) covered all except the $9K deductible.

Tim is a busy man! He is now in Hatteras fishing the Hatteras Marlin Club tournament. I am sure he will share both tournament experiences with us when he get back home and settled in.

HI ALLHAVE I HAD A GOOD TIME. Actually the time of my life.
Fished three tournaments back to back.

Swansborrow Blue watter Released one small blue Marlin cought winning dolphin (mahi mahi }
Big Rock released 350 pounder the First day right up there with the big dogs. second day jumped one off he spit the hook but it was exciting. took lay day fishing four out of 6 days. Third day another came to visit our baites about 1;00 after all the screaming from my daughter who fished all 4 days quit yelling there he is he took my teaser and tore it apart in about 2 seconds. Fourth day we were competing with a 742 pounder which took first place,it was about a 5 hour fight.WE saw a lot of fish in thebaits. I understand full moon they eat at night (we had full moon)
I was lucky enuff to become a member of the Hatteras Marlin club in Hatteras NC. The club began in the earleigh 1950. Ther are a bunch of past winners posted in the cafateria many picks of yearely hatterscals. The food was grate with the release marine boat competing along with some other good fishing teans & heavy hitters.Here i come with a 1990 52c. After catching one the first day ( a all release tournament) my old 52 c got a lot of attention. We were the talk of the tournament after all said and done. We remained on the board for a while the winner cought and released 2 blues and one white, It is baised on points 400 points for each blue 150 for white and 120 for sails winner won with 2 blues and 1 white. Three day of fishing out of a possible 5 allowed. This was not a money tournament just a bunch of guys having fun 55 boats competing but it is not hard to get a dock side bet going
All in all the best part was i was with family wife daughter and my redone hat the best three weeks of my life. With run from Morehed city to Hatteras and all fishing time we put about 100 hours on the boat only problen we had was a leaking stuffin box.

No No were were competing against that fish, WE DID NOT CATCH THAT FISH it was cought by Casey Wagner
Got to tell you we were within 1/2 mile way from Magic Moment WHEN IT GOT STRUCK. It has a full tower and there were several other boats around with full towers the radar look like a race ro the the clear sky .. It was a bad cloud about 6 miles wide and moving fast.

This boat just had a 700,000 $ make over at Jarret bay without touching the engines all cosmedic. The boat was purchased just 3 months ago in Florida its home is now Spooners Creek Morehead City.
