Life plus 85 years in 'Joe Cool' boat killings
By CURT ANDERSON – 8 hours ago

MIAMI (AP) — A former security guard has been sentenced to life plus 85 years in prison for the 2007 hijacking of the "Joe Cool" charter boat and killings of four people aboard.

U.S. District Judge Paul Huck imposed the sentence Wednesday on 21-year-old Guillermo Zarabozo (gee-YEHR'-moh zah-rah-BOH'-zoh), who maintains his innocence. Zarabozo was convicted in February of 16 charges including kidnapping and murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence.

Already serving a life prison sentence is 37-year-old Kirby Archer, who pleaded guilty.

Prosecutors said Archer and Zarabozo chartered the boat intending to hijack it to Cuba, then fatally shot the captain, his wife and two crew members while at sea. Zarabozo claims Archer committed all the killings, but a jury found otherwise.

Life plus 85 years means they have to keep him around rotting for 85 years after he dies. What a great use of the taxpayer money.

I say we let the inmates fix this for us.

Lock him up in a communal cell with a bunch of rapists and promise them immunity for any "accidents" that occur in the cell.

I'd have them change my DD's belts while on high idle...! Then they could mouth to mouth on my pumpout hoses...

Why was he NOT given the death penalty?! Multiple killings deserves a needle in the arm...

Needle in the arm, how about the electric chair "underwater"... just as he starts to drown they zap him...

Well, at least he didn't get off on some technicality which was what I was afraid would happen. Personally, I think life in prison would be worse than the death penalty. Then again, if memory serves, this guy was gay anyway. He might enjoy his new home.

Better yet... zap him just enough to stop his heart, use a defibrillator to bring him back, zap him again...do this once for each person he killed...then finally let him die at the end?

tourture him? Stormy how could you!!!

Already tried and convicted...I could not care less what happens to someone CONVICTED of killing or being a terrorist. Its before trial and conviction that I have a problem with...due process my boy...due process...

So, as long as the paperwork is in order.......

You have a problem with the due process of law that is a right here in America? Now THAT is a communist view if I ever heard one...

Due process I like just fine.

I just can't figure out how your concience will not tolerate torture because it's so horrible; pain, suffering, mental anguish etc. human rights, high moral ground and all your other high ideals.

But if they've been convicted then it's all just dandy with you.

Government funded abortion? Never heard of a baby inside the womb convicted of a crime.

If it's in the womb, it's not a baby.

Although it does make you wonder how you got here. I have a vegan friend who makes the same argument yet won't eat eggs - he's a Librarian too with masters in teaching and library science. Guess you could whittle down to semantics’.

You seem to say that as if it were a fact! What about different viewpoints. I could take a 180 degree view (actually have) and say you're completely wrong. By the way, do you have any children? Have you ever taken children under your care that otherwise would be in a damaging enviorment? I have in both situations and more than once and I'll tell you, your mind would probably be changed if you had. Part of the growing process that you'll find as you get a little older than you are now. By the way this is not an attack on you personally!!!!

Of course it's open to opinion, the term baby is not a scientific one. But a fetus meets every part of the definition of a cancer or a parasite. I was no more emphatic about what I said than the previous poster who compared abortion to torture.

No, I don't have children, I've only been married a little under a year. Yes, I have cared for children, volunteered at a orphanage in Nicaragua.

Cancer: growth or tumor caused by cell division that has the potential to kill the host.

Parasite: An animal or plant that lives in or on a host; it obtains nourishment from and potentially can kill the the host without benefiting the host.

Dave - the political banter on this site would be so one sided without you. I have to say, I do enjoy hearing everyone's side of things, even if this is the most unlikely of places to do so.

Seriously, I’m still laughing that you actually quoted the definition of a parasite and cancer. It really is funny in a very demented way. I have 3 brothers and can relate this to kind of humor, even though I know you are just as serious as you are having fun with it (us). If I didn’t spend most of my waking hours in NYC I would probably take offense, but it really is quite good.
