I never liked the vinyl headliners on my 73 43DC. Reminded me of the headliner of a 1964 Impala. They were in good shape though, so they were tolerated.
My 79 53MY has the same headliners. They are not in as good condition in some areas, especially along the edges in some places.
I know that some boats have wooden overheads made up from 3/8" x 2" beadboards with rounded edges.
I have the woodworking equipment to fabricate all of these little boards. Would make a glorious amount of sawdust cutting them from 8/4 stock.
My thought is to do a test case on the overhead of one of the heads. Very small area. If it comes out badly, a square yard of headliner, some staples and we are back where we started.
Would do heads in mahogany since everything else in those spaces is white. All other spaces would be done in poplar painted with white oilbased semi-gloss. All lighting would be replaced with recessed LED.
Has anyone done this?
I look forward to your input.
I will post photos of this project as it unfolds.
