Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Any Thoughts?

We liked Mystic Last year!!!!

Also, any interest in July 4th here in LHYC this year... If so, I need to talk to the Manager here

Noel

We should get a poll going to see the date that works best, I hope the weekend of the 8/4-5, then poll for the location.

I missed last year due to a date conflict.

JM

Mystic last year was a great venue and we all had a great time. Thanks to Dan and Chris (34 hat) for the leg work in organizing the slip reservations and catered dinner! Sorry that all could not make it! While we were there, we discussed the 2012 HOF rendezvous. We are fortunate this year to have "Glory Be" work out slips for us at Paynes Dock on Block Island for 2012. Due to scheduling issues that come up every year for many of us, and in order to avoid Glory Be's scheduling conflict, we are looking at August 4-5, 2012.

We had a tentative headcount of 12 boats last year for the Block Island rendezvous last I heard there may be more already. Hope that it works for most of the HOFers. I know that may be difficult for those coming by land, but there are ferry options from the Ct and NY ports. Plan a few days vacation there and grab a room or couch!

So consider this the preliminary post that the slips are available for those who will be able to make it and the details will follow.

If there is interest in another rendevous, please don't let the BI plans interfere in a poll on place, venue and dates for a second get together. There is very likely interest in more than one rendezvous a season.

:)

The details will be worked out. There are lots of places to get a room on the island

yes Nick... Time frame for the run from NYC to Block and when we did it 5+ years ago with Erin.

I think my question was more related to what is Payne's pricing?

I have never been to Block Island. How much farther is it than Mystic coming from Sandy Hook, NJ? If it's a reasonable distance we'll consider it. Frankly I loved Mystic Seaport and the date is even good. August 5 is my B. day so you all can ply me with booze.... (I drink mostly O'Douls). Some of us did discuss the possibility of New York Harbor, specifically Lincoln Harbor YC where Noel lives on his Hatteras. It has several restaurants on the premises, including higher end (Ruth's Chris) to regular stuff including a Hollihan's. Lots more within walking distance. Also New York City is just a short ferry ride across the Hudson right from Lincoln Harbor YC. This could be the Rendezvous of all Rendezvous'. We can probably score some tickets to some Broadway shows or other interesting activities if there is an interest in that. Or just go sight seeing around NY. There is so much to do that it may be best to sced a couple of extra days. We have lots of HOFers in NJ/NY metro area that would probably attend since it's close for us/them. Well, anyway we should consider all the alternatives including the suggestion of two gatherings.

Walter it would be about 18 nm more than Mystic!

August 5 well how about that, I am the 6th! No O'Douls here though I'll take the real stuff :)

Nice - count me in for Block. I'm still carrying a grudge against the Hudson - it took my anchor (and Dan's) last 4th.

Block would be wonderful. I might finally be able to make one of these events.

18 Additional miles is only 2 hours @9k.... I'm in.

Dan, One birthday boy to another, I'll drink the real stuff as well on that weekend. Let's see, I'm Aug 5 and you're Aug 6th, I guess that makes me only a day older than you... (I wish).

Walt

Actually Walt, From the Hook to Block you would probably have less mileage by running the South Side of the Island all the way out. It is basically a staright run along the beach all the way and avoids Hell Gate and then hooking around through Plum Gut behind Orient.

I havent plotted it but my guess would be that the mileage would be less from the Hook to Block outside than to Mystic via East River and Sound.

Inside run is over 20 nm longer!

Depends on your start point does it not. For some of us Block etc... is a haul that others deign never to consider. Just pointing that out.

As for July 4th Weekend... No reason to lose an anchor, here it is a 3 day minimum (so far) @ $4 / ft. Fireworks directly in front of you and while we cannot BBQ on the docks, On Board seems to be no problem.

We are considering Block too...

Noel

Noel, you didn't actually expect us to go back and search for your post in September 2007 regarding baby travel time did you?

Anyway the good news that I can share with you, having raised three kids on the water, is that once you leave the dock and they hear the background engine noise, they usually go to sleep and take a good nap. Then they stay up all night! The most expensive cradle you ever bought!

See you at BI!

LOL, Nick... She slept the whole night too :P (I didn't write that did I?). But it is a full day + trp from here... I figger 2 days out through the sound and 1-2 days back... Might make a week of it with a stop at Mystic... not sure yet.

Noel

Although running on the south side of LI in the Atlantic is closer but maybe it might be a more prudent choice to run the Sound. Several reasons....there are lots of good ports of call in the Sound and if the weather decides to get "sporty", we can duck into a port at any time. Running the ocean gives us less options in the event of bad weather. Also we would plan on making this probably a 7 or 8 day round trip.

Since this trip (rendezvous) is actually a New England venue, perhaps we could kick around a second gathering. Some locations could be Great Kills Harbor (Yacht Club), Maybe Atl Highlands in Jersey or go up the River (Hudson) to somewhere not too far up such as Haverstraw. This is just a thought, but it could be a great summer.

I agree, and you just keep the dirt on the left.
