Been trying to trace these wires to no avail. Look original with blank cream face plate. Have metered every wire to ground, no AC or DC voltage and no continuity.

That red wire is not hook to your EPIRB is it. If so WTF. John

From what I see looks like an original AC box because of black and white wires.

Original terminations are for Leviton light switches. Red may be for a heavy duty 15 amp clunker DC switch, but there should be a second red wire???

The clear terminations are probably original. The blue termination was an afterthought by a sparky or PO.

You can also see two screw holes top and bottom for Leviton switches.

I would treat all of them as potentially AC live, cut off the connections and tape/seal over. Then buy cover plate.

It’s located where the switch for a DC exterior light might be. Is there a light outside the door?

Do all of your salon overhead lights work on other switches? This could be a three-way switch since it’s near an exit.

Do you have the original wiring schematics from Hatteras?

Haven't used it a lot yet, but it does seem to find wires in bundles through the insulation.....

Thanks guys for all the suggestions the tone tracer helped a lot in giving me a clue to direction it ran. Turns out it is for the original saloon HVAC thermostat. That also explains the 4 screw holes in the wood panel around wall box. Three separate single cores run to terminal strip in back of helm seat. All on unused terminals now as boat has SMX controllers. This matches Hatteras drawings also. The separate cores threw me, guess I should have pulled box from wall.
As for being connected to EPIRB, my feelings got hurt. Damn I forgot, supposed to turn them off before hitting the forum.

Now you need a blank cover plate and then move the epirb up. I would leave the wires and tag at both ends and remove wiring from the terminal strip.

You could use the wires to put a small red background light behind the EPIRB......

All done, and drawings red-lined. Left the EPIRB as is don't want to discriminate people of short stature.

Red light close to windows.
hmm, maybe strange people knocking on my door late at night? Probably sailors.

Red lights are fire departments.

Not good
