Thanks guys for all the suggestions the tone tracer helped a lot in giving me a clue to direction it ran. Turns out it is for the original saloon HVAC thermostat. That also explains the 4 screw holes in the wood panel around wall box. Three separate single cores run to terminal strip in back of helm seat. All on unused terminals now as boat has SMX controllers. This matches Hatteras drawings also. The separate cores threw me, guess I should have pulled box from wall.Haven't used it a lot yet, but it does seem to find wires in bundles through the insulation.....

All done, and drawings red-lined. Left the EPIRB as is don't want to discriminate people of short stature. Now you need a blank cover plate and then move the epirb up. I would leave the wires and tag at both ends and remove wiring from the terminal strip.
Red light close to windows. You could use the wires to put a small red background light behind the EPIRB......

hmm, maybe strange people knocking on my door late at night? Probably sailors.
