John, that is great news. And yes, we always have room for one more! when do you plan on being in the area. We are thinking either the early part of August or the end of August. Havent got a confirmation yet from some of the guys as to dates but so far the end of the month is winning.
Sky and his friends havent spoke up yet to firm up a date or who all will be joining us this year but we always try to accomodate as many as we can.

Thanks for responding and hope to see you this summer on the great lakes....ppat

Hi PPat....We are currently living on our 36 Hat in Miami. What a great place to spend winter. I am not sure what is happening for us this summer. Set the date and we will see if we can get away for the dates. We have spent several days on Beaver Island years ago and had a good time. The ferry from Charlevoix provides a great way to get to the island if you don't have your boat. We found a good hotel, (condo), on the north side of the island about a 10 minute walk from the ferry dock. I don't remember the name, but it might be "Beaver Island Inn", or something like that. Great food there also. All of this was 10 years ago at least.

Maynard, you hold a special place in my heart and I will do everything in my power to meet you!
We moved from Illinois and now live outside of Manitowoc, Wi. We are a block off of Lake Michigan!
Even thou it is 5F outside, we take a drive to the lake and just look out at the vast, unexplored (to me) waters and I am so looking forward to this summer!
Come spring we are bringing the Roamer to Manitowoc and then in the fall we hope to start the trek south with the Hatt Trick (sub).

Seahorse55 has businesses on Beaver Island and is helping us put this together. he can answer any questions about docking, hotels, any of that. Trojan Bill, there is a ferry that comes to the island so hope to see you again! ppat

In terms of dates, likely mid to late August works best for my plans, but you guys do whats best for you and I will figure out a way to work around that. Thanks.

John, that could really work out for us also. Once the summer is over here, we plan on moving the Hatt Trick south. She's going back to her old stomping grounds. We plan on moving her in stages. We just bought a house in Wi. so need to spend summers there with the Roamer but winter will be spent on warmer waters!!! ppat

ps....what size is your yacht? I saw on your profile a 36 sedan. Is that the yacht you are doing the great loop in? Getting under the bridges can be tricky on the larger yachts. I know that on ours Bill has to take the radar arch off...and then still barely clears the Lemont bridge.

Might be putting this trip on my things to do list for this summer. But I have to wait to see what fuel does. They are saying $5 gallon..... and on our income...that'll put me/us of contention.

I don't have the big bucks like the majority of you!!!

We dont either. Bill has a pension and I am out of work....ppat

Willy .. yes I'm doing the great loop on my 36' sedan. I am about 15' air draft all up so I should be fine as long as I drop my antennas. I can also lower my radar if necessary to get it down even more. Once I'm loaded up with all my gear I'll be getting out the tape measure just to make sure !

I'm also hoping to run into some of the HOF folks further south mid winter! I originally was a long time sailor, but decided I wanted something a bit more practical for all the river travel on the loop. I was looking at a bunch of different trawlers, and then found the Hatteras and fell in love! These are amazingly well built boats ... when you check out the cruisers and trawlers of similar vintage out there one really notices how strongly the Hatts have stood up over time. And of course there's this great forum to help me out too !!!!

You wont have any problems at 15 feet. Theres a 20 foot (+ or -) at Lemont Il thats permanent, but everything else to the Gulf is good or can open. When you go into the Illinois system, take the calumet route. Those bridges will all open if needed whereas the new bridges on the Chicago river route are fixed. My Roamer at 16 feet clears all except the Amtrak bridge at 18th st. and that one ya hafta wait for hours for train traffic. ws

Ok, so far we have gotten a pretty good reply from some of the people.
We haven't got a date for Sky and his group.
Once we get a few more replies we can take a poll for the dates.
Then I can see about getting us some groups to show up and entertain us. I was thinking of USPS and maybe Reed Yachts this year, if possible. I would need to get in contact with them soon to firm up a date so lets get cracking, ok? ppat

Jane and I will try very hard to make this get together if it is early enough in August. Our yacht club's annual regatta is around the 24th. so that weekend won't wor. The others look fine.:)

Ok, I have gotten replies from people with interest in this get together. This is who has expressed interest so far, please forgive me if I missed your
name (let me know to add it) or yell if I added it mistakenly...

Trojan Bill

Maynard Rupp (E)

The (E) indicated they would like the earlier date. I do not have confirmation on anyones prefered times yet...this is just what I am hearing.
According to Eric (Seahorse55) the later date would be good for the island.

I would like to hear from anyone else that is interested, now is the time!!ppat

Pat, thanks for this. But I think we may have gotten our port and stbd confused. TH&T won't be making it this year. A little out of our region.... That said i don't need to confuse the dates conversation.

I was going to be up in that area with the bike camping and though it would be fun to go to the island. But the boat trip to and from the island plus 2 nights in a hotel. Would almost pay for the fuel to get My boat there. Now I need to take inventory.

BILL

Ok, Top Hatt, you are off the list. Bill, maybe we can get some arrangements going for you to bunk with some one when you get there. At this time we do not have a crew, just Willy and myself. Gator is working and may not be able to take off work. We will find out when it gets closer.
Do I have any other people interested in the rendezvous for this year? Eric (smoothmove), Akin? ppat

PPat

While you have put me down as preferring early, any date will likely work for me. My only "deadline" is that I'd like to be down in Chicago by around Labour Day to continue my Great Loop trip, but I can always be persuaded otherwise !

Great! We promise to get you to Chicago by Labor Day. If you like and have a day or two, maybe you can come across the Lake to Wisconsin with us before you head to Chicago. Not out of the way at all....ppat

Thanks for your kind off ppat ... I just might do that ! I've never been to Wisconsin before and understand that side of Lake Michigan is usually a bit calmer with prevailing winds out of the west.

If you stay on the Michigan side, don't forget to stop and see us at White Lake. We have several HOF members at our club and it's just 100 miles to Chicago from there.
