  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Had the front windows glassed a couple years back and the Admiral wants to install an entertainment center in the newly created space. Also removing the lower station and all above electronics, etc......so both sides will be available.

So...I'm looking for some ideas on:
*How to set it up
*What should be included in center
*Anything you learned in the process
*Any and all $.02
*PICS!!!!!

Here's what it looked like "mid-stream" during the job...and this is my available space....

Thanks
T

I don't have photo's yet but I just had a guy do built ins. He receased the wall about 6 inches back from the counter top and matched the teak up pretty much across straight with a little curve. I bought a flat screen tv about 42 inch and recessed that area to fit the tv so when it was mounted you would not see the side or back bracket that hold the tv. He put doors as you go down the steps to use the area behind the tv for storage. the left side we are going to put the stereo. I also put in suround sound. It's a 46 Hatt if I don't mind saying so it looks like it came from the factory that way. I also put in ulta leather head liner with the new small round lights.Makes the boat look so much like the new models.

My boats a 46 and I was wondering how much did it cost you and how long did it take? I need to do mine. Did you do all 5 windows? Being a liveaboard, I'm trying to figure out a way to speed up the process.... I have collected a couple of pics, I wil try to post them...

Cheers!

You could revover even mroe space if you took out the lwoer helm. With no windows, it's no longer useful so might as well recover the space. :D

I'm getting ready to start my 36c galley up also, here's what I have planned. On the starboard side a recessed flat screen lcd with flush mounted SAT and DVD units directly below. On the port side a flush mounted convection/microwave, recessed coffee maker, and storage. I'm also going to redirect A/C airflow from the single 18Kbtu "blaster" to dual built in outflows at each upper corner. That should improve circulation and quite the flow noise. I'm aware of the risk flush mounting expendable appliances only to find no units down the road that will fit the same hole. I'll add some buffer space to help and I just may buy a second convection/micro while they are still available and put it in the attic, buying a second lcd makes no sense as technology/price will be vastly different in only a few years. Am I missing anything?

He says he is removing it in his first post ;)

Thanks for everybody's input so far!!!!
I met with the guy doing the woodwork and here's what we "tentatively" came up with today....
On Port Side:
* 6" matching Corian Counter in front of cabinets
* 32" Flat Screen mounted Up High at slight "inward" angle, with Direct TV receiver & cabinet below TV and also cabinet to right of TV on an angle.
* A/C outlet and controller mounted to left of TV
* Open style cabinet in back with access to it from stairwell
Stbd Side:
* 10" matching Corian Counter in front of cabinets
* Smaller home style stereo mounted low with small bar/glass hanger mounted high in cabinet with black plexiglass doors.
Other:
* Microwave/convection will be mounted above fridge
* I like your idea of twin outlets for the A/C!
* Indirect LED lights above both side windows and across front
* Keeping/Mounting starter buttons/keys above electrical panel.
* Changing out black countertop to white/brown/black Corian with undermount sink
* Decided to ditch carpet and teak/holly the floor while we are at it
* The darn post where all the bridge wiring runs is the biggest hinderence

Did I forget anything???
Thanks

ps...Captned...I sent you a PM

On my last 2 boats, I had a BOSE 321 system with (sortof) surround sound and a small wide screen PHILIPS tv . Its compact and worked very well. Its nice to dim the lights and watch a nice DVD movie onboard.

As far as the cabinetry, keep it simple, with clean lines. I prefer when the components are hidden behind retracting doors when not in use.

Can you still change out the large appliances with the windshield glassed in?

I bought a HT system for Passages for under $300 a few years back. Consisted of the receiver/amp, five 4x4" cube speakers and a decent subwoofer. The salon area is small so you really don't need a powerful system to achieve good results.

I'm with you on the bridge wireway location being a PITA but there's NO WAY I'm tackling that project, it stays. That's the main reason I decided to put the tv portside. Post basic drawings once your design is set, I'll do the same. Mike

How can I elimate my yard time when getting the windows glassed in? I live aboard. I was wondering if someone could measure the windows and have inserts ready to go when I hit the yard. I could remove the windows myself before arriving.... Any ideas?

Thanks,

Captned
