Finally!

OK ... this may seem too simple ... but if you have significant vacuum in the ER caused by intake vents that are too small thus causing black smoke from air starvation ... couldn't you do a trial TEST by openning the access doors to the ER while running to see if the black smoke stopped? Sure you'll need ear muffs but it seems a simple test! Just my two cents worth.

I am running w/ the engine room door open. But I am still getting black smoke. Tonight I am going to go run the boat w/ the air cleaners off the engine. This way I can get an actual test of what is wrong.

BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL RUNNING WITH THE AIR CLEANERS REMOVED!

Do a very - and I do mean VERY - thorough sweep of everything around the engines before you do this.

If anything gets sucked into the intake while you are running with the air cleaners removed, it will immediately grenade the turbo or worse, get past it and into the engine itself.

BTW, this includes parts of your body and clothing.

Operating an engine with the air cleaner removed is sometimes necessary, but it is quite dangerous, especially under load and while in motion.

Exercise extreme caution.

Is that 66 sq. in. per side or the total of both intakes put together? My 333HP “N’s” would require 101 sq. ins. And then there is the genny… And me if I’m down there…. It looks like I’m a little short also.

How does the RAM Air concept work?

If I have hijacked this thread, I’m sorry. I thought it was kind of on the subject… Black smoke, air flow issues… :o

Traveler45c,

Gonna take this to a New thread.
