Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Well, here we go. I am going down to Florida to help a friend of mine cruise the 48' Ocean he purchased with 600hp Mans from Palm Gardens, FL up to Connecticut. I'll be out of touch for much of the trip, but if any of you members spot an Ocean with the name "Fish Merchant" on her, that's us. Stop by or give a shout.

Have a great season, everyone!

Capt K :D

Enjoy and have a safe trip!

Nick

Thanks, Nick. See you in a couple of months on your side of the Pond.

K

A relatively lightweight Ocean 48 with 600 hp manngrenades should be pretty fast.....for a while.

My side of the pond is getting new bulkhead, picnic area and pool!!!

Bring your friend and trip photos!

Nick

Nick, I was wondering how that project was going. Say hi to Jeff for us, and we WILL be there at some point with both boats. He's also in our yard so the free nights will be used.

I hear what you're saying, LuckyDave! It has more glitz, speed, and equipment than my 45 year old Hatt, but....
Let me say that again; my 45 year old Hatt!!

Have fun, all! See you on the outside!

K

The project is coming along; faster than some imagine and probably slower than Jeff would like! Bulkhead is nearly done. Building roof is back on, rough plumbing is in place and framing is done. Memorial Day? well????

I'll tell Jeff you said hello!

I'm jealous! Well off to work!

Well, here we are. First stop from Jupiter Inlet, 190 plus miles to St. Augustine.

All going well on the Ocean. Nice trip, so far, half calm, half pretty choppy. We were running 6- 10 miles offshore .

Will keep in touch as long as we can find wireless to "steal" at our stops.

Coming North to the weather I'm more used to. This sunny, warm climate confuses me!

K

You need the Pascal Hat Cam!!

Are you all coming through the Chesapeake Bay or running outside? Probably outside, I would guess. Have a good trip.

We are doing the same trip beginning next Thursday from Cape Canaveral, FL to Lake Erie. Keep us up to date on shallow spots and fuel prices! Look forward to your posts.

Look for us in St. Simons Island, GA as you go by.

Golden Isles Marina where we are hanging out presently is a nice stop off point between St. Augustine and Charleston.

Well, here we are on the start of day 5 and only in Bald Head Island, NC. The weather outside has been horrendous since Friday. Tim, we did stop in your marina on the first day of our intracoastal journey. Saw your boat (nice!) but did not see anyone onboard. We came in on the outside dock in the Ocean sportfish, "Fish Merchant". Sorry we missed you.

There's a really nice looking 53'yf here called Miss Kim. Anyone here own her? Nice looking boat!

Well going to Beaufort/Morehead City today (inside) hoping to get outside tomorrow to run to Norfolk.

I'll talk at our next internet connection.

Capt K

KindofBlue! Where are you going to in Lake Erie? Erie has been 3 to 5 ft. or better for the last month. Wind has been from the East or SEast for most of the last month. Cruising Erie has been real bumpy. I'm out of Toledo.

Bad week to be out there- saw a decent sized SF offshore Fri afternoon about 3pm - 20 miles south of St Aug off Matanzas inlet, he was backed down to maybe 12 knots and you could see spray going over the tower on every wave- not having a good day at all- unless you were kite surfing- then it was killer!

Sat was worse- and Sun it was 10-12 foot on the beach- with a 100 foot surf zone

Looked bigger than a 48 though- hope it wasn't you

Trojan-

We are out of Catawba Island ,but are a long way from there since we've yet to leave Florida. Leave Cape Canaveral Thursday morning heading for at least St. Augustine (120 miles) then Charleston, Morehead City, NC, Norfolk,VA, Cape May, NJ, Albany, NY , New York Barge Canal Etc.. Would like to avoid the inside but may need to use "The Ditch" if it's still blowing out there. Would really like to avoid Georgia ICW. I understand there are several very shallow spots. Would still like to hear from east coast Hatteras owners on fuel prices?????.

Kindofblue

The ditch gets real skinny behind Topsail Island...where are you tying up in Morehead/Beaufort? We are in Town Creek (Beaufort)..give me a call if you need any local info... (PM you my #)

KindofBlue,

Sounds like you will be coming right through Buffalo. I can't give you much information about fuel, other than the very last stop on the Erie Canal is the lowest prices for diesel all summer. Right hand side just before you enter the Niagara River. It's a rickety old looking place but he has new above ground tanks and he keeps his filters clean. If you need a place to overnight e-mail me, our home owners association has it's own marina. I can also give you some advise on the Niagara, it can be tricky with it's strong current and one low bridge.

FYI.... fueled up at Atlantic Highlands Municipal marina (Sandy Hook, NJ) on May 2nd on the way south to VA from Mystic, CT. Diesel was $2.71.

Sorry I started this and disappearred. Just got back today ( 9 days!!). No free wireless internet the last few days. We were inside from last Friday, from St Augustine until Thursday when we left Hampton Roads, Va for Atlantic City. The ICW was really tedious, but not really bad when you kind of got into the rythm and the protocols of running inside. Lots of crybabies, but mostly great folks along the way. We left Atlantic City at 6am this morning and backed into the slip in Westbrook, Ct at 2:30. Quite a run!Outside all the way from A.C. around Montauk, NY to Westbrook.

We had some nice and some really interesting stops along the way. St. Augustine, Fl, St. Simons, Ga(take the free ride offer to Outback Steak House), Hilton Head, SC(Harbour Town Marina; free bottle of wine with fuel!!), Bald Head Island, SC, Bellhaven, Ga (really creepy, but an awsome place to stop over; River Forest Marina), Bluewater Yacht Yard, Hampton Roads, Va (great place), and finally Atlantic City, NJ.

The 48' Ocean is a really nice vessel. I lived on it and helped run it for 9 days, 8-10 hours each day. The equipment was exceptional and very redundant. The boat pretty much ran itself in types of conditions and situations. Still, not a Hatt. Much lighter but, of course, that is why we were running about 25 knots at 1932rpms.

Nice to be home and see my old Hatt m.y. again!

I'll try to answer any questions. Reply here or PM me.

I'm glad to be home.

K
