So how do you feel about your hard earned tax dollars being spent to buy up older cars and scrap them? Sure it's good for the auto makers and it's good for the people buying cars and good for cleaning up the air a little. But if your not an auto maker and you don't need a new car aren't you getting screwed?

Brian

What about the fact that none of my vehicles would qualify as I have had vehicles that get better than 18 MPG for years and the people who already drive efficient vehicles get nothing.

FYI how about the fact that the cars will all be destroyed when so many others need decent vehicles to get to work.

Just another stupid program to match the others which have been implemented by Obama. The one thing that really burns me about this is the fact this allowance is given to those who purchase imported as well as domestic autos.

Lemme see, we've already paid out all this money to bail out US automakers, and they can't even give them that much of an edge?

Maybe they'll come out with a similar program to give us extra money for our old Hatt's toward something more fuel efficient as well. I've always wanted a big, cruising catamaran.

This is what cash for clunkers is doing--ruining perfectly good cars that would've been sold to people with less income that can only afford a used car. The result is more people in debt paying too much and having car payments for a NEW car. BtW, that car is nicer than any car I have EVER OWNED and they are destroying it.

Smart government...they'll start burning food next (and not even make gasoline out of it).

Remember the program is only to help the few to the money of the many.

Let's see, take debt-free cars from the frugal and entice them to crush them and turn themselves into a debt slave, when our economy is falling apart due to too much debt.

Oh, and let's destroy all the spare parts for the rest of those frugal people while we're at it.

What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

Nothing. It seems to be working as well as the spendulas and Nobamacare will.

Considering the fact that our DC leadership wants us financially screwed it is right on target.

Nobody mentioned where the scrap steel is going... CHINA.
End of discussion... ;-(( ws

Do you mean that we the tax payers aren't goping to get a credit for the recycle value of the clunkers??? DUHHHHHHH

No Karl, you're missing the bigger picture here. These people will actually save money in the long run having traded in their gas guzzlers for more efficient vehicles. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this plan.

As with other such savings plans implemented by the Obama administration, this one will pay for itself in 213 years. That of course assumes that gasoline will not decrease by more than 14 cents over that period of time. If that happens, the break even point will be slightly longer. After that, it's free money. It's a no-brainer once you run the numbers.

Hey, I am using the blooming program!!! I Hope... why not, the incentive is better than the trade in LOL. Now....

A Prius 2010 or a VW Jetta TDi (will it burn red diesel? and what are the chances of my tank getting dipped?

Noel

You'll probably never be checked in a car but the new diesel cars have converters and can't tolerate high sulfer fuel.

Brian

If you think the US is bad with the initial $1B program, now raised to $3B, Germany alone has a $6B cash for clunker program. Financial TImes predicts sales will nose dive after all the program funds are burned.

P.s, Obama's "...best run program ever..." barely had a spreadsheet on a PC to track the clunker funds consumption. That's the biggest reason for halting the program...they had no idea how many cars had been sold or how much funds had already been commited, when they burned the first $100M.

This bunch in WDC is bunch of rank, scary amateurs, in the business sense, except for being cutthroat politicians...now that they are good at; and I'll bet they'd be flattered to hear that!.

spent the am looking up the vehicles (prius and TDI). The TDI cannot use Biodiesel too many thingamabobs for the greenies I guess. Wife liked the prius and so did I. Not much to dislike in the car (does what it does comfortably it seems). Will test drive a TDI tomorrow and then run the numbers. Best chance to get my money out of my SUV (stupid bloody greenies).

will know more tomorrow

PS why do the US companies have the smallest amount of vehicules qualifying? hmmmmmmmm

Desperation makes politicians act very strange as in the case of the cash for clunkers program. I thought that these "give away" programs would be intended to help "OUR" economy but I guess I was wrong. Actually in theory the program seems interesting but it would be IMO much better if it required participants to buy American.

Walt

Hey, I'm not giving up my 92 jeep with 355000 miles even if it only gets 17mpg, I love my clunker!!!! Hope they don't start a mandatory cash for boat fuel gusslers, most of us Hat owners would end up in Cuba.

Well, the whole idea of all those programs, housing help etc, is to get people deeper in debt to help the economy recover, this will then make the populace more dependant on Government programs which translates to re-election.
If the economy at r-election time was in recession again there is no way Republican programs would convince the public to elect them into office, thus, the Dems go back in.
Mind you we have had that similar scenario here in BC and the buggars did get kicked out thank goodness.
It is scary though what is happening and lets hope the public outcry gets louder.

How does the ford fushion hybrid compare to the prius price and fuel economy wise, do you know?

I say let it happen, I am hoarding all my old clunkers under armed guard, and the blocks holding them up are boobytrapped.

Realistically I say let fools become fools, some people have a destiny that cannot be changed, if they want to go this direction let them.

Bottom line is the obvious fact its just another socialistic agenda thats been painted and sweetened so gullible people will jump at it hook line and sinker.

From what I have seen as for economy, not on the radar. As for price (shrugs) I am looking at what the program should be doing.... High economy only.

As for Gullible.... let me see, at least an extra $1,000 in trade in value with the program than without.... not bad in that respect..... ut then again, we shall see if we pull the trigger too LOL
