That's what I'm expecting to see on Kismet Thursday when I go down to visit her!! :(
She hates this weather.....

Those snow pics are amazing. Highly unusual and if framed would sell like hotcakes.

I look through these pictures often, thanks for posting them and making the thread classic!
I'm broadening my options on Hatteras, I initially always wanted a sportfish model but not anymore. Seeing your boats and getting educated on here has helped my tastes and knowledge mature. I do like a cockpit though.

Family outing to Statue of Liberty, we just came under Brooklyn Bridge when the Boat Pix helicopter came around and took a couple of shots. Nice having wide format color scanners at work. Thinking about getting a Cuckoo clock to go between the pictures of boat in basement (aka The Man Room) - seems appropriate.

I see very few sport fish models in the forum from up north, must be a good reason.
Sure there is; there's no Tuna or Marlin in the Great Lakes. :)

Obviously it's a personal taste and use thing. Everybody gets the boat that suits their needs, wants and budget.

I would have a sportfisherman even if I didn't fish, but that's just because I like them. They're more like a sportscar in the boating world. Maybe that's why they're called converibles.

Personally I'm not a Motoryacht kind of guy. IMHO, they all look like they're sawed off in the back. Although I might be able to adjust to the look of a Yachtfish or CPMY. On the other hand since it's cold and a short season up north I could see why enclosed space has more value. But to me the look is like Classic Oceanliner vs. Cruise Box.

I agree Scrod, like I said, your boat pic really turns me on! But, because I do live up north, there are no marlin and I want a live-aboard, I too am now leaning towards the YF & CPMY models. Thankfully, Hatteras has all models available. :)
(If I could afford to run a 52' sportfish, then that'd make a difference but I'm trying to stay under 50').

If you run at a reasonable speed, I doubt there's much difference in fuel consumption between a 45'er and a 55'er...say 8.5-9.5 knots (hulls speed or lower). Take the 53MY as an example...keep her in displacement mode and you can get 1nmpg or better (about 10 knots for 10 gallons per hour at 1,100rpm, even better at lower speeds, say 8 knots)...but plane her off and that drops a LOT (15ish knots at 35 gallons per hour at approx 2,000rpm).

I realize what you're saying Storm, but fuel consumption is not really the concern. Extra costs I worry about are the higher maintenance of a performance engine in a sportfish, and the extra costs for lenght when it comes to slip fees & shrinkwrapping for winter. It works out to $800 per foot per annum up here.

Scrod,
If that's the SS United States, that's more than just an ocean liner. One of the founding members of our club bought the ship with several others a few years back. They were the group that had it towed to Turkey to have the asbestos removed and then towed back with its props lashed to the deck.

I think the current owner is NCL and there is a group that is looking to restore it to its past glory. I saw a special on it about 6 months ago. It was pretty impressive today (in its sad shape) and while it was commissioned. It still holds records for crossing the Atlantic and with 250,000 hp, it could go almost as fast in reverse as it does in forward.

It is indeed "The Big U". Even rusting at the dock she still looks like the greyhound that she was. Greatest Liner ever built by far.

It's sad to see the state she's in, but at least she hasn't been made into razor blades. Hopefully either NCL or someone with some serious capital and an appreciation of what she is can bring her back.

Well, ok then...never mind what I said. hahahaha Sorry to drag the photo thread off topic...

c'mon , doesn't anyone else have some boat pics?

This wouldn't be a "proper" HOF thread if someone hadn't already high-jacked it away from it's intended photo theme. So I will almost get this back on track with a Chris Craft pic.

She's a 315 Commander 1985. It's not a "real" Commander so it's not very welcome in the Commander Club, and It's not a Hatteras, and obviously doesn't belong here, but what the heck.

This thread has already been previously defiled.... So here goes.
