Every once in awhile someone will show up in the Great Lakes with a true sportfish, outriggers, tuna tower and all. I wonder if the can catch the little perch with that rig?? A friend of mine owns a mid 40'ish Chris Craft aft cabin. He pulled the Crusaders and installed 280hp. Yanmars. He takes the boat to and from Florida annually. He claims 2.7mpg. at 8 to 9 mph. The other interesting fact about Great Lakes boats is that almost all mid size, (under 45') boats have gas engines. The original buyers looked at their planned 50hr./year usage and opted to save the 80K extra cost of the diesels. They didn't realize that they also lost the torque. Our gas powered 36C gets 1mpg at 9mph. but any other speed shows .5mpg. So if we are going somewhere we either stay at 8 to 9, or go to full 18 to 19 mph cruise.
