I have always loved the look of the 58 TC. IMO it is probably the best looking of all vintage Hatts. You are looking at a good amount of work to finish it off, but if you're up to the task, why not. Be prepared to spend a bunch of $ and tons of hours. If you are talented and do a professional quality job you will have a head turner wherever you take her.

p.s. I wasn't even thinking about the mechanicals... good luck

I saw this yesterday. I'd prefer to bring back one that was neglected but relatively "unmolested" as opposed to something that looks like it has a bunch of questionable or "custom" work done to it. That may sound harsh. I DO like the lines of the 58 TC though and always wondered why Hatteras didn't make more of them.

They are lovely boats- very graceful and roomy design, for a 15-10 beam. Only thing prettier is the 70 that they made at that time.

This is a serious project, no question. I think it is priced way too high. Two 53 MYs that I know of sold for half this, and at least one of them is now a showpiece with hundreds of hours of sweat equity in it- a running, handsome boat which is a credit to the owner's persistence. (wink, wink) That boat was just partly taken apart, not partly gutted like this boat. This boat with 12-71s is a good starting point, but not at 47K. More like 20K. I have no idea what the quality of work done so far is, but I'd be very careful in looking through it all.

We had a older couple that were neighbors who had one I think from new. Theirs was immaculate and if I remember correctly sold for $36k several years ago. The TC 58 is a neat looking boat but quite honestly has that dated "cabin cruiser" look. Stepping down into the salon always seemed to me kind of confined. I think the 53my is more desirable because the salon is on deck. And the Resales have shown it.

That 58 TC was the one that sank at Chesapeake YC 2 winters ago. She was submerged to her gunwales and rolled over to stbd IIRC. There was a pic of her down on that Hatteras Owners Facebook page but the attachment is no longer there. Buyer beware.

No buyers here. :) LOL Hearing that, I wouldn't take this on if they paid me 47K to drive it away. No, thank you. Mind you, I love the 58 3-cabin, dated and all. I think they are beautiful boats.

Leave it to Eric to burst the fantasy of the day ... :)

Good point re TC as cabin cruiser v. the 53+. It's the same up/down from every part of the cabin .. as someone recently said a "stairmaster" on the water.

Seems the 53 and it's ilk, and the often discussed Ocean Yachts MY, are really the starting point for true "2 story" boats out there.

She sold as salvage for $15K in Sept. 2014

In my previous post this morning I said "why not". That was before Eric provided us with the sordid history of it. Now as pretty as I still think the 58 TC is, I would run away from that one. By the way, I agree about the interior steps etc as not being particularily desirable, especially when compared with the 53 MY but from an outside profile I still like the 58 TC's lines.
