As with eveything there are different ways of doing the same things. I trust these guys... he s an older guy who s done many repower, he s done work for me before and knows his stuff. The original engine beds were alum with a steel bad inside the stringer. The new glass will go all the way down to the hull

As to the car, yes thats the bonnet against the wall and yes those beautiful covered headlights died in 67 thanks to Ralph Nader and co who also killed eared spinners... seems like Ralph was concerned women long skirts could be caught by the spinners of a car driving by.... i decided to make things right and had the bonnet sheet metal modified to accomodate original series 1 headlights. Unlike other cars that used simple shape, the E-type glass covers have a very complex and beautiful shape. Th awful rubber bumpers came in 73... i have had this car for almost 20 years and have done a number of mechanical upgrades incl 5 speed manual, suspension, electrics, etc... over the years i ve driven it in 45 states including Miami to Seatle. In 44 hours door to door :)

You must of been flying to get there in 44 hours! When I moved from Hollywood, Florida to San Diego, California it took me 3 1/2 days doing 14 hour days of driving and I thought I was making good time! What does your Jag top out at?

Pascal did you replace the Lucas electrical system? I hope so, it was amazing the number of things that went wrong on what was not a particularly complicated electrical system. John

Very strange that the Lucas electrics on cars was referred to as the prince of darkness but the same
company also did the electrics for most of the great British fighters such as the Spitfire etc.

Walt

Yes, it has MSD ignition with Crane optical sensor in the distributor, Delco Remy Alternator, Carter fuel pump and modern gear reduction starter. It s been delucassified All the emission crap has been removed too.

I guess that's where they put the competent work then. Of course we don't know how many people cursed the electrics on Spitfires too.

It s been delucassified

Now there's an interesting term.

"delucassified"

I'd have expected it to be called an exorcism.

I expect to see that in Webster dictionary next printing.

John, did you get my text?

Been there done that! Happy to help if any questions or concerns arise! Keep up the good work!

More progress. It's been a bit slow as it took quite a bit of time to cut down the stringers and make the new engine foundations Stingers have been reglassed, hull has been reinforced for the new stabs and the beds are in place. Should paint later this week and get the engines in. First stabilizer dropped in place too

Love seeing the Photos. Keep us up to date. What an adventure.

Why did the stringers have to be cut down? I would think that new brackets could have been made to just drop the engines between the stringers without cutting them down. Or are the engines wider than the stringers?

Looking at the stabiliser in hull fitting, there does not seem to be a wooden block used, or am I mistaken?

How did you reinforce the hull and to what degree?

Did stabiliser brand allow some margin of error when fitting up? (My Vetus stabilisers needed to be fitted to within 0.5mm which took a lot of time to set up.)

Really interesting project!

Crankshaft centerline and reduction gears dictate where the engine has to go. Are you going to drill and tap the rear motor mounts? Doesn’t look like you can thru-bolt them. Make sure you have a clear shot over the hole for the drill.

The new ZF gears are angled down. The Alison's are straight so the DD were set pretty high on tall stringers. The new engines wouldn't have fit mounted between the stringers and that would have raised issues with access.

Stabilizers going in. Flange wasn't in yet on that one so the actuator is sticking out...

The cut out shows the hull reinforcement we did, almost doubling up the thickness, extending from outboard stingers and up 4" along the hull side and about 4' long On top of that they re glassing in a wooden block under the flange
