Milton made landfall in Siesta Key about 20 miles south of Riviera Dunes. The landfall was such that we avoided the dreaded storm surge. From some accounts, we actually got negative storm surge as the water was being sucked out of the Manatee River and Tampa Bay. A repeat of Irma.

From reports in our harbor, we fared very well. 102 MPH winds clocked at our location. Riviera Dunes commercial marina had some minor damage to finger piers. A couple private homes lost their docks. From early reports on our neighborhood docks, a couple boat lifts were toppled and we lost some main piling roller assemblies.

Reports on Miss Maggie was that she rode it out well with no apparent damage.

My house happens to be on the other side of the harbor. We sustained some minor damage to landscaping, missing roof tiles and soffit damage.

I still think some boats get left in the path of a storm, either from lack of planning, or a deliberate desire to get rid of the boat. I hope I'm wrong.

Various insurance companies needed buying a number of boats here at my marina, boats that were either for sale or hadn’t been used in months. Many of them had minor damage, mostly cosmetic, and were quickly flipped for a nice profit. Repaonsible boat owners are paying for that behavior

JD, glad you made it through ok. You were lucky to be nearer the eye to some extent. While you got more wind, you didn't get slammed with the surge.

We were a bit too far from the eye and the surge set new records here. We had 2" of water in our garage, but fortunately that is still about 1' from the main house level. The hose made if fine, despite full bundles of tiles for our new roof all sitting up on the rooftop. Amazing they didn't take off and do collateral damage to all my neighbors homes.

Katerina survived the storm, but broke four new 14" pilings like they were toothpicks. We had storm anchors set across the canal to pull her off the pilings, but one anchor slipped. Winds were directly on our port side (out of the south) at approx 80 mpg, gusting even higher.

We do have cosmetic damage in several places, but I can say the Hatteras and in particular the LRC are built like a brick S" house. I will need to call the ins company and see how we proceed as she will need to come out for inspection of underwater damages

My neighbor a few blocks down also split a bunch of pilings where he keeps his 65LRC. Even worse, somehow his stabilizer fin got caught on the dock and when the water receded, the boat heeled over 45 degrees. Last I spoke with him, he was waiting for Sea Tow or Boat US to come see if the could tilt her over further to free up the fin.

Boats are up on lawns all over the place. Some are 1/2 on their lifts and tilted up to the sky with motors submerged.

This one is going to be a very costly storm. Ian was the cause of insolvency for 7 insurance companies here in FL. I wouldn't be surprised if more went under after the last 2 weeks.

One of the other members posted something about irresponsible boat owners that leave their boats and don't take any measures to protect them. I think they should be denied coverage for irresponsible/negligent care of their property. The rest of us that bust our butts to protect our boats should be rewarded. Too bad insurance companies don't request photos of the boat tied up properly. Time to stop ranting....

So sorry to hear.... uggghhh!

Glad you and your family are safe... that's what matters most.

We had a couple boats on lifts in our harbor topple over. They will not even be easy to get off the lifts at this point.

Given the choice between surge and wind, think I'd take the wind.

That's CRAZY that you snapped FOUR 14" pilings! Would you consider going back with concrete piles?
