The radar array will have its own switch. You have to follow the wire to find it. There should be a fuse for the array in the fuse box under the steering console.

Thanks. There's a lovely fuse arrangement under the helm with all the electronics listed by each...and they're all good. All the breakers on the helm set are on. There must be a button somewhere! I've never used Simrad before...a little different.

Of course, it took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to make the screens brighter. So, the cluelessness isn't unusual.

Just in case you've ever wondered what an 8v92 impeller would look like after sitting for 7 years with almost no use, here you go:

As for putting a mahogany veneer on things, it works easily for valances and small stuff. However, I couldn't find a way to clamp this veneer tight enough on the entire table to keep it from buckling along the grain. It has some raised areas and I'll have to start over.
Lesson learned: Buy the veneer with the peel and stick rather than the glue-down version.

Have Simrad radars on 2 different boats, 6kw and a 25kw. I know for sure the 25kw has an on off switch near to where the cable goes in. Think the 6kw has the same setup but not positive. Memory is the 6kw and 10kw bases are the same.
Simrad 25kw and 10kw radars run on 24volts. All of our Simrad units are powered with 12volts except the power box for the 25kw has a separate breaker hooked into a 24volt breaker panel. Also have the sounder black box on a separate breaker.
Also think there's a fuse in the power box and another fuse inside the unit itself. Don't know if they will run on 32volts or not.

Thanks much. I looked again tonight and can't find it - feel like I'm losing my mind. There's a small control box that says 6kw radar on it...no switch. There's a a/c inverter under there for the big screen on the helm under glass, a big fuse gang, a big orange box with all the cables into it and another big black box with the same. No switches anywhere. Followed the wire from the unit all the way into the black box...nothing.

I never had a boat with a professional install like this, all done at the same time. It's so clean - it's intimidating!
I'll snap a few pics one night this week and hope for more tips.

In the meantime, how about one more stupid question:

You know how they put fabric covered panels in the front of the salon in convertibles - where windows used to be? Well, I started covering them with some really nice quilted stuff tonight.

What's the best way to get them stuck back up there?? Did you use some kinda' brackets? That foam glue used on styrofoam details on houses?

The last guy used finishing nails! I'm not doing doing it that way.

We all like pictures. So, I thought I'd throw a few up tonight of my various struggles.

What do you think - the wood valance or the fabric? I like the wood (since I did the veneer). Wife says fabric for sure.

Every inch of wood here was filthy and had mold growing on it. After cleaning, I'm pleased with the finish the "Minwax Antique Hard Finish" oil left on it. It's a little shiny, but hard and dry to the touch.
20210413_165632.webp Aw man - how'd that get sideways?

I recovered the panels that go over where the front salon windows would be with a quilted brown vinyl diamond pattern. That was easy. Now I have to figure the best way to reattach them.

Anybody know what this little remote is for?? Just found it under the helm!

I love the helm electronics setup.

But I still cannot figure out why there's no data coming from the sounder and the radar array. I'll have to call Simrad tomorrow.

Pics go from left to right under the helm.
20210413_170124.webp I thought that big black box on the top of this sideways pic was an inverter, but it's a converter from 32v to 12v. I've never seen one as big as a shoe box.

Man, that blue fabric on the valence is reallllly nice! Also really liked what you covered the front window panels with. Go to the Sailrite website. They have these little clips that are perfect for holding those panels up. They are snaps, and really secure. Also it’s a great website for all kinds of soft goods. Speaking of that, I hope that blue fabric is indoor/outdoor fabric or you won’t get but a couple of seasons out of it. You won’t believe how fabric fades even though it’s inside the boat!

Thanks!! That's just the time-saving tip I was looking for...will order those clips right away. But which clip??? https://www.sailrite.com/All-Hardwa...Hooks/type/Products?order=custitem_popularity

I went on Etsy.com and just searched "vinyl fabric blue gold" and couldn't believe the selection. Everything is vinyl so it can just be wiped-off. I got the white version of that quilted diamond fabric to cover the big wall mirror in the master stateroom. That should really lighten it up.

But damn - I was afraid y'all would prefer the fabric to my mahogany veneer!

Edit: This must be them....look perfect for the job. BUT, it appears I'd have to make a hole? Hope I don't drill through the other side. https://www.sailrite.com/BeauClip-Panel-Mounting-System-Black

I perfer the wood to the fabric since you went to the work of repairing them. Im a wood guy and all of yours look really nice.

The little gizmo is a sensor for one of those weather stations, it looked familar because i had one here at my home. Very handy when needing to know how long to warm my truck up on those Januaury mornings.

You're a good man.

We all know my wife is gonna force me to do the damned fabric. So, I just appreciate the sentiments.

A-ha! Yep, there was a weather station clock on the boat I took off during the big cleaning. I wondered why the damned thing didn't work - that must be the sensor which sends the clock data.

I was converting the nav lights over to 12v at the switch yesterday and tested the switch for the Ray-Line while at it. It's getting voltage but the switch is toast. That little resistor connecting the slow and fast power is rusted away.

A new switch is $250. It just so happens there's a used one on Ebay I just bought for 25 bucks! What are the odds it works? I'd guess about 8%...felt lucky.

Chinaman got you 藍藍藍藍藍

You should have known better.

Look at mermaid manufacturing in Ft. Meyers . I've sold their products for years. A stand up veteran owned company.

I can get you a real unit if you need. Pm me

Mermaid already gave me a quote for next unit, didn't realize they were vet owned. MarinAire was recommended to wife by someone she knows... Won't be buying from them again.

What do you do when there are gaping holes to fill? (careful)
There was a giant stereo system in this one. I can still hear Frampton Comes Alive oozing from the components.
I already have a big ice maker and full reefer. The edge moldings don't even match and it's hideous. I really don't need a drink fridge...might have to get one just to fill the hole.

Then there's that other cabinet which held an ancient tv with built-in VCR. I've got so much other shit to do. Wouldn't it be great to find a cabinet door that size?

20210420_192118.webp Sorry I don't know how to flip the pics.

Mystery solved. There's a single, big ol D 12v battery sitting in the way of the steering pressure cannister and the genny. Since day 1, I've wondered "why??"

Well, I finally traced the wires on Sunday and found out that big battery was only wired to a cigarette lighter on the bridge, one big cockpit light mounted on the bridge (the cheap black kind that belongs on an old truck) and another cigarette lighter mounted in the box with the cockpit controls. That's it!
I'll rip that junk out next weekend and give the battery to my buddy for his trolling motor.

Worthless weight. (I'll resist a wife joke here)
