Brunswick Corp. is putting its Cabo and Hatteras brands up for sale

Well, it looks like the Healy's are going to capture some more market share. I just viewed the conceptual plans for the new Viking 75 motor yacht. 4 staterooms + crew. Looks reminiscent of a Recent Hatt, but with better lines and better windows. Really nice hardtop and bridge area. We'll see what actually gets built...

Maybe if it is a VIKING and not a re badged Princess.

The Viking MY have never been real Viking. Even before Viking rebadged Princess into a package that was far more popular than Hatteras' offerings, their MYs in the 80s and 90s were built by the Lazzara's Gulfstar in FL

It is a Viking, built in the same plant as the Viking SF. Viking was planning on building their own line of MY's back in the '90's. A friend of mine put the financing together to fund a 100ft+ MY. I believe it was built but not at the NJ facility. Not too long after, they made the deal to re badge the Princess Yachts as Vikings instead of building their own line.

There also are a series of Viking MY's that are their SF hulls with hull extensions and a dog house over the cockpit.

If that s the boats I m thinking about, hard on the eye is a nice charitable way of describing them :) or may be that was the Oceans MY...

Speaking of Lazzara, it s one builder what has been working hard to come up with new stuff over the last 10 years while Hatt took a nap

It's the Viking MY that fits that description.

Like this? These are very roomy. 15 foot beam on a 44 foot boat.

Hi All,

I've whined about this before but........i never get tired of it, hope you don't mind.

First, try and find a slip in my neck of the woods for a boat over 45', slim pickins.

Second, the best price I found for a direct access slip (to buzzards bay) for the 2013 season in a decent marina was $135-$145 a foot. (we're not talking any fancy amenities here or ritzy clubhouses)

Third, they charge you extra for electricity, water, wi-fi, and cable.

Fourth, they consider my 48'9" yachtfish to be a 51' or a 52' boat depending upon how they eye the swim platform and bow pulpit.

When I bought Glittering Image in late 2007 I was paying $80 a foot for a great slip in a great location which included water, electricity, wi-fi, cable and a marina attendant. Today's price appx $135 a foot.

So I'm looking at $7020 plus electricity, water, wi-fi, and cable for a SIX month season.

And what confuses the he$$ out of me is that many marinas up here have been slowly loosing customers, over the last two years especially. I'd say many had 30-40% of their slips empty last year, but instead of lowering the rates and offering some small incentives, they're raising the rates, charging you for previously free amenities and letting their docks go ?

One maria comes to mind immediately. His deeper water slips (maybe 7)can accommodate boats up to 50' and were all under contract last summer (15% increase in per foot slip fee) the other 200+ slips were 50% filled if that. No maintenance work is being done and issues abound.

Go figure !!

Gene, you need to change your woods. :) Can I brag to offset your gripe? Here in Port St Lucie I'm paying $12/ft for 12 months. Includes water. At Baltimore Yacht Club, the cost for a 55' slip is about half that in your woods. Buy your own electricity. Water, cable and WiFi included. Keep the boat in the slip for 12 months per year if you prefer (I did).

Hi All,

Bob, your killin me buddy :) .......but you've got the wheels turning !!!!!!!!

Nope- this is a true "Viking". The relationship with Princess is over, officially. This is not a dog house plopped on a SF hull either. Looks very nice. Sort of a beefier Hargrave with higher freeboard and some swoop (but not Euro crap) windows. I like the fact that they started with the shorter model instead of the 100 RPH design and back feed the line with less rich buyers. Purely a marketing strategy to pick up market share instead of a pure profit model.
