So Byron, what was he asking for it? Not that I'm in the market. I'm just curious as to what a properly kept and updated Hatt might be worth these days.

$795K is the ask. What's it worth these days is a "whole 'nother" question.

The brokerage show in Feb which coincides with the Miami show used to have plenty of "normal" size boats including all the classic Hatts. I suspect that the cost of displaying is too high considering that the newer bigger megas are apparently selling and they bring a lot more boat bucks. The FL show is probably more so relative to older boats under 60 or 70 feet.

Perhaps someone will organize another "Brokerage" show that will cater to the more popular sizes from the mid 30's to 60 or 70 feet. Since I have no real experience in selling boats except my own, I can't speak with any actual knowledge about the chances of a show like that to succeed, but it seems like a good idea. What do the yacht brokers on this forum think about it?

Why did I hear an old Aerosmith tune playing in my head when I read that ask?

Seriously, I was looking at an early 90's 70CY three years ago at FLIBS for less than that, and it was VERY nice. I'd still like to see that one though just to get ideas, but I doubt we'll make it to the show again today. Riding on boats is still more fun than looking at them.

Walt, There is a brokerage show on Kent Island at Bay Bridge Marina in the Spring. We displayed at that show for 3 years in a row.
In each of the 3 years at the show:
I took 6 boats that were all in good condition, detailed and properly priced.
I staged all of the boats with decorative stuff and fresh flowers.
I had laminated display signs and graphics custom done for each boat.
I had glossy hand outs printed for each of the boats.
I had professional banners with my company logos flying in the breeze overhead.
I had all of my salesmen in crisp button down twill shirts embroidered with the company logo.
I handed out custom bottled water with the company logo on the labels.

I spent a fortune, and we never sold one boat as a result.

So, now at Boat Show time, I run full page color ads in national magazines like MotorBoating, and I go to the shows as a spectator. Its more fun, less work and less money.

Eric,

I understand your pain, but what I had in mind was a larger show much like the Brokerage show at Miami ea Feb. With all due respect, the Bay Bridge Show IMO doesn't cut it for several reasons. We have attended that show over the years and while it's OK, it's still too small to attract the crowds that I believe are necessary for success. For one thing the admission should be free to the public like Miami another thing is that it should coincide with an established show such as the Annapolis show in Oct, perhaps in a close area like Back Creek or closer. Most importantly I think is that it should have a good marketing plan to attract as many brokers as possible, which in turn should result in more of the public attending. Eric these comments are from a long time boater who has attended many, many boat shows over the last 60 years of my 72 but that in itself does not qualify me as an expert in how to sell boats. Every year at Annapolis I pass brokers booths with lots of pictures of their offerings and think, wouldn't it be nice if some of these boats were here.

One last point is that most of the boats that I have owned over the years were bought spontaneously while just browsing, including a couple of brand new ones. We just happened to be walking by and spotted a boat that caught our fancy and just bought it. The last one was at the NY boat show (which has diminished over the years) just a couple of years ago.

So Angela

Was it the big cleats like Byron asked Christine hit one on Friday!
Luckily she did not break anything can't believe they leave them like that I bet people hit them all day long!!!!

Good seeing all of you again.

Oh yeah Byron did you buy anything :D????

I really didn't see any vendors that was real eager to sell. I think I visited just about every Generator vendor but they didn't seem that hungry. Even the NL rep from corporate gave me a price higher than I had already got over the phone from a dealer around SW Fla., before the show. Looking and talking to all rep's, there is definitely pro's and con's to every gen set. The cheapest one was a Norpro and it had the best warrenty. 5 years on everything. They were also the ones that didn't mind spending time with me. Didn't like the right side of sound shield. It didn't snap off. You would have to take a bunch of screws out to take it off. You would have to take it off to do any belt work. Where my gen set sits, I don't have a bunch of room on that side. I looked at so many, all it did was confuse me.

I just put a 15kw Norpro in this summer. My soundshield has a top that snaps off as well as both sides. I have complete access to do any work on the unit. Either they have 2 types of soundshield or they have cheapened them up. Maybe there is a difference when you order the Yanmar vs Isuzu power. Mine is the Yanmar.

sky,
I was talking about right end of the shield, The front & back did snap off like yours but the end that has the belt on it can not be snapped off. Am I correct to say that yours only has two sides, front & back, that snaps off?

Yes, that is correct. But we had the whole thing disassembled to install it. It's only a few bolts and you can have it all removed. It's one of the best designed shields that I've seen. I have not changed a belt, but it sure looks like it could be done without removing the end. Just snake the belt around the fan blades and then onto the pulley.

Thanks Sky,
Yours sure does look good. Have you used yours much? Is it very quiet? I might just wait until my house sells before making a decsision. Thanks again

It is much quieter than my old Onan. In fact, when we rafted up with a Hatt Convertible, they didn't even know it was running as they sat in their cockpit.

I have about 50hrs on it, so I just did the first service. That's not even broken in yet, but so far we like it. I think any new set would have been quieter than that old Onan and at 50hrs I'm sure I'd be happy with any of them. Time will tell.
