  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
When I was at the Miami show I went aboard a new 41' Bertram. Much to my surprise it had windshields. The interior was beautiful and bright. I asked how much extra to have windshields. The salesman laughed and told me that they were standard and that a glassed in windshield area was an extra cost option. They even offer an optional inside helm package for $45,000; ouch. Rivieras also have windshields. Most still don't have any opening windows, so you are stuck in an artificial climate when aboard. I thought people bought boats to get fresh air. We love our windshields, inside helm, and sliding windows.

At least windshields are back on sport fish boats. It looks like we may be returning to classic ideas.:)

Have they finally figured out how to make forward windows not leak? From what I hear the new Bertrams are WET boats in a sea. It would be a shame for all that fancy I-Tralian woodwork to get all stained and nasty from water intrusion.

I asked the sales rep that exact question. He laughed, and said they believe the leaks will be gone. Also, they have a 54C with front windows that was at the show. I liked the 41's layout better than the 54, but the 54 has the dash similar to what I have on my 45C, so it was nice to see what can be done with that space.

It's nice to see them coming back.

I thought the new Bertrams had more worries about water intrusion from the cored bottom than from the topsides.

Ah.....yes. That does seem to be a problem, doesn't it. Maybe the salon windows are to help you find your way out when she sinks. :)

I see that new Ocean 37 Billfish has front windows and a lower station as well. It looks like a pretty nice boat except for fact that it's an Oh S#!t!

It's too bad that Florida heat and chronic leaks have made glassed in front windows fashionable. It makes the salon very dark and I, for one, really wish I had a lower station. For fishing, docking and less than perfect weather up here in the northeast it's one thing I really miss.

I thing you can prevent leaks by gluing the frams with 5200 and not use screws then set the glass with butyl and then seal under the pvc glaze with automotive windshield sealer.

Our old, 1986, 36C Hat has huge windshields. They never leak a drop, never have, ever. Yes, we have a lower helm and love it. The lower helm also gives a very classic look to our salon. Some want a salon to look like a room in their house. Not me, we like ours to look like a real boat.:)
