I completely agree. Going out in the Bay in weather like this essentially states you think you are smarter and tougher than the elements, which we all know is not true, and it does not allow for any of the hazards noted above- not being able to see or hear anything, floating stuff that can hole your boat or flying stuff that can kill you.. etc etc etc. I love my boat and to show that, I took her out of the water and did everything I could to make her safe. I love my life at least as much as my boat.

Stay in touch, everyone. And for any HOF member who is on the Eastern or Western shore and needs a place to go, the Chateau du Rosenthal is accepting all comers. Dinner is at six.

Looks like a Hunter Passage 420 0r 450. Center Cockpit... Might need a few stitches in that mainsail.

They are lucky to have a rig at all after that, let alone their lives.

I'm a little NW of Norfolk in Virginia, HUGE blow right now, 20 kts in my slip. Water EVERYWHERE. Watched 2 permanent anchor boats just drift up the creek. Storm surge about a foot right now, expected to increase.

I am a sailboater too....too many just neglect their engines and then they need them! That's what I heard happened here.

Well I left my 58 LRC to the spiders at Sassafras Harbor Marina, on the T-head. Yup T-head. Georgetown wanted $2400 to haul out and would not give me a hard date as to when or were I would end up. Thats about it for local haul out spots. Worton Creek could haul her but he already ruined my 42 LRC, so he's out. The admiral would not let me anchor out in the river, so I put anchors out 150' fore and aft with markers and tugged them up away from the dock. I hope it works but I would think realistically that this rig cannot handle TS winds on the wrong beam. But I beleave the winds should mostly be from NE to NW which will push her off the dock.

The spiders are not happy that I have left them to the elements but I will go down again late Sunday if the roads and bridges are open. They closed the bridges over the C&D canal at noon.

David,
Sorry to hear you couldn't get her hauled!
I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed! Hope you tripled up lines and some monster pilings!

I just spoke to my Captain who lives on his boat at Piney Narrows. High tide was still 18" below the dock. So far storm surge not evident. Power was shut off in the marina at 2 PM today. He reports that all else seems to be OK as of now.

"Power was shut off in the marina at 2 PM today."

Power is on at G dock - has been all day. Water level has essentially been unchanged all day so obviously the tide and the hurricane are canceling each other out so far in that regard. They say the worst WX will be gone by midnight.

you are too far up the bay to feel any surge... the only issue may be on the west side with easterly blowing water that way...

glad to hear you're doing fine though!

Definitely much windier in the last hour but earlier today G dock looked like this:

Local station says currently gusts are from 40-60 mph which are expected to be the maximum in this area for the duration. They also say tomorrow is expected to be a nice "breezy" day!

Still have shore power! :)

G dock appears to be well populated. There is "power" in numbers. I recognize all of those faces. Carole and Marvin are absent. Did they have a note?

Well preliminary report from Anchors Away Boat Yard in Hampstead. NC. is that Bout Time seems to have weathered the storm OK. We will leave Canada to be there Monday or Tuesday morning to see if we have any water damage.

Hope everyone out is ok.

Ron

By the looks of that report, we'll definitely have water up in the boat yard! 10pm high tide (1.5 higher than normal), 4-5' surge and 35 knot winds....

Well, if Kismet for a down, so do about 70 sailboat and one 65' aluminum trawler right behind her!

Middlesex County (VA) is pretty submerged at the momemt. Thankfully, winds dying down a bit. I watched 2 sailboats drag up our creek today. Both are impailed on various structures at the moment.

Are you on Jackson Creek or Broad? I'm over a deltaville Marina on Jackson, which is protected from the NE winds, but obviously open to the surge...

It feels windier on the boat right now than it did at the height of the storm - probably the speeds are lower but the wind is coming from directly on the bow whereas earlier it was from the beam and somewhat blocked by other boats.

Water level is normal - it has never been outside the normal range at all so that's a good thing. Shore elec power is still on at G dock.

The wind is blowing directly from F dock toward G dock. Can't see any signs of any damage locally - no canvas ripped loose and no roofing missing on either G or F. Damage to G roof would probably require a nuclear strike but F is quite old and one of the concerns here is debris from F roof hitting boats at G. But so far the F roof is doing fine. All the others seem OK as well but I'm viewing them from some distance.

about 30kts here in Nantucket Boat Basin, winds coming on the stbd bow. We're alongside the dock but have a dolphin at the bow and one at the stern. Lines are stretching a bit but i have an extra loose line ready to wrap around the windlass to pull the bow into the wind off the dock as needed when the tide goes up and the angle changes. No capstan at the stern but i can use the engines to kick the stern. dolphins are pretty high so line angle isn't ideal but it will work

winds supposed to peak aroiung 50/60kts and clock to the S then SW, around our stbd side.

big classic ketch motor sailor behind is heeling 15 or 20 deg. already

Kent Island Maryland mainly wind now. Just took a ride around the area, only damage noted is a few blown out genoa sails and torn canvas. The 100 or so sailboats anchored out behind Lippincott's in a hurricane hole of sorts appear to have come through just fine. Below is a link to a youtube video I just shot in Piney Narrows. Shows current conditions in the marina. Not real exciting but see for yourself.
