  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Have the above smart charger and while at the boat Fri. night ( both A/C units out with dead control units and 93 degrees in the boat) noticed that the battery charger is showing a fault on the panel. Being extremly stupid on anything electrical, can anyone point me to what the fault light would mean?

Skip, which model? I have a Brand X XC series "smart" charger for my thruster bank, and the manual. I think you can get a manual online too. Mine lists several "faults"; do you have "% charged" lights as well? If so, which one is blinking? Is the "fault" light steady (on mine, indicates a problem external to the charger, if blinking, indicates a broken charger) Do you have a remote? If so what does it say?

George, wish I knew which one it is. Yes I have the remote panel and the fault light stays on. Have 2 banks to charge and when i got on the boat everything on the remote was off. Pushed the "start button" and all lighted up with the fault light on. Charging lights were between 20 and 60% and lights for both banks on. Maybe this is connected to the A/C boards both going out if it's external?

OK George, went on the web to look at what I have and found that it's a true charge 2 with a remote panel. The fault light is in the upper right hand corner. On the left side is the % of charging, middle shows batteries state, right side type of battery charging ie: wet cell, agm etc. still looking for a manual however

George, Burt Ferebee was on the boat to check out the A/C units and found that the reverse polarity light was on when looking at the panel. Seems that my dear wife, when plugging in the shore power, didn't twist the cord end to lock it in and the cord was halfway out thereby not getting the ground connection. Only 1 leg was affected but must have slipped some more affecting both legs thereby cutting out the second A/C unit. Have a feeling this was the problem with the battery charger also. He's going back down to the marina in a few hours to work on another boat and will check the lights on the charger for me. Told ya I was stupid about electrical. Should have been the 1st place to look however I checked for electrical coming in and saw both legs had 120V but apparently not grounded due to the plug not being properly connected. Sure hope the diver didn't go swimming this past week!!!!!!!!!!!!

problem solved

Good! Going to be out this weekend? We are coming back in tomorrow morning and heading back out Friday evening.

Bert's a great guy, the "spcoolin" of the Carolinas, sans the internet savvy. Jack ("Saltshaker") this is your man when you get up here for AC and many other things.

George, last thing I heard from Giga when I left this morning was "only 3 days left till Fri." which means Yes we will be out to the Cape Fri night. I'm leaving the office at noon, picking her up and driving her down to one of her employees house in Beaufort for a conference call she has at 3. Then her employee will drop her at the boat while I'll be doing regular maintance, then out to the Cape. See ya'll there!
