This is the 44 motoryacht from the 80's. The tanks were leaking from water leaks and are outboard of the engines in the salon. The gas leaked and we could not believe it did not blow up. Live abords with a march open winding pump for the ac. One blower not working and the smell was so bad it took 2 weeks to air out after we removed the fuel and the leaking tanks. We also had cracked and leaking hose on the manifold that was marked 2006.
I do not know that the same boat in diesel would have such issues but the tank builder attributed it to ethanol phase seperation rotting the tanks.
If it were a smaller boat or an outboard Gas could be an option especially with outboards but to have 350 gallons in the bilge of this boat below the salon scares me.
A frind of mine had the sistership and guess what. he also lost a tank and leaked gallons into the bilge.
I guess I'm just not ready to blow up from fuel leaks. If I was doing a repower on a 34,36 or larger Hatt I would have to go diesel. With the ethanol issues and more to come with higher concentrations I just dont like the leaks and the ethanol issues.
