Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
So here it is, FATHERS DAY.... I get to do what ever I want.....

Woke up about 7AM, and knew something wasn't "just right". As I stood up, realized there was a list to port that was not there last night.....

Opened up the hatch to to ER. and could hear water running.... Not a good thing INSIDE of a boat. Saw the plastic tubing to the ice maker had split and a small steam of water was shooting out.... And then saw it stop .....

I have a "Melnor Mechanical Aqua Timer" on my water hose and it turned off just as I was looking (I know how Pascal feels about them, but it worked). I keep it at 150 gals.

So at 9AM I was at Lowes, got some new tubing and fittings and got it fixed the first time ( I SO HATE plumbing, and it hates me).

Seems "somebody" had disconnected the ground wire to the bilge in that section of the boat (Er, that would of been me) last week and forgot to reconnect it.

Had about 6" of water under the port engine that was easily pumped out. It was contained to that one section. I have 5 other bilge pumps and a high water alarm.

So now I have the afternoon to do nothing.....

Oh, the admiral DID STATE the ice maker had to be fixed so she has ice for her "drinks"..... :}

Time for a few beers...

Oh and HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the rest of you

Is today "Sinking Day" or what? This morning a sailboat on the mooring sunk, going down bow first, and my neighbor behind me just got towed in. He blew a transmission, and he was taking on water from somewhere.

Based on the title of this thread and Angela's recent brokerage experience, I thought maybe you woke up and Florida Yacht Brokers had listed your boat for sale :)

My Captain, my Captain, I have very bad news. The flooding in the engine room is out of control. I also have some good news. The flooding will put the fires out

ROFL!

Not good.....

that's why i prefer not connecting to dockside water!

so your bilge pumps were out?

Pascal, I'm with you on dockside connections. About the only time we connect is when we are doing laundry. The tank water always stays nice and fresh when you turn it over frequestly. Never an issue re drinkability.

Pascal, I'm with you on dockside connections. About the only time we connect is when we are doing laundry and then I use a pressure reducing valve that provides even less pressure than the Surflo. The tank water always stays nice and fresh when you turn it over frequestly. Never an issue re drinkability.

By the way, failed supply lines on icemakers is one of the leading causes of high insurance claims in homes. There are several grades of tubing. Use the best, i.e. copper. The translucent plastic is the worst.

the shut off valve did it's job. Could of happened if I used the water tank.

OK, reaility is this is the 5th time in 7 yrs I have had the stupid ice maker tubing burst. And every time it is not at a fitting but a split in the middle of the tubing.

Have brass tubing coming in, then about 3' of plastic tubing. Am going to google and see if there isn't some type of reinforced tubing I can buy...

Hey Charlie... use that soda fountain hose with the nylon re-inforcement. Can you fit a regulator in the line? ws

Bill you surprised me...

You posted a reply WITHOUT a picture attached.....

Grins.......

I hated to rub it in...LOL That J-W just wouldnt be the same if it werent OTR! ws

Would some nylon air brake line work? I use it often for 175psi air delivery to vibrators and air cylinders at my concrete batch plant and at -45 temps. The only thing it hates is direct heat.

If you're only using the ice for fish any hose is okay. But if you're mixing drinks I'd suggest an FDA rated hose. McMaster-Carr sells reinforced polyurethane tubing in short lengths. www.mcmaster.com

Scrod,
That's a wild website. But did see the hose I need.

Have had several people here in Jax tell me about a place in town that has every hose ever made.... Least I now know it's 'out there".....

I love Mcmaster we use it at lot at work here. I also use it for myself they have 1000's of thing's and it always seems easy to find. Then when you do find what you want they even have it in stock !!!! I get it to my door the next day :)

I'd post a direct link to the product, but the website doesn't work that way. The drill-down is as follows: Under Fittings, Pipe, Tubing and Hose click on tubing scroll down the page and click on Braid-Reinforced (there's a picture) Then scroll down a bit to the Material heading and select polyurethane Then if you scroll down a bit there's a field where you select the I.D. of the tubing you require. Then in the upper right corner you should find a link that says "compare products" or "view catalog page" If you use compare products it will show you about three items that you can pick from.

It sounds more complicated than it is.... really. The biggest problem you probably ran into is that they call it "tubing" and we tend to think of it as "hose".

OTOH, if your local guy has it. That's good too. :)

There is a wholesaler in Jax that has most everything in hose and hydraulics. I will try to find the name and number for you.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE..... a different section broke this afternoon !!! This time the saloon had a huge puddle when I got onboard....
Instead of being the section running from the brass tubing to the valve, it's the small section running from the valve to the icemaker... I replaced this piece about 5 months ago.
Fired off an email to mcmasters about 2 hrs ago. their site says I would get a reply within an hour.... . Told them I need 5' of 1/4" OD reinforced tubing for a ice maker. Still no reply from them....

Got a reply today from McMaster. The do not have a 1/4" OD reinforced hose. (told me to check out page 106 of their catalog).
