Anyone use a Good Windless?
I believe they have started making larger boat ones.

I replied in post 7 that I have on my 46. Good makes an extension shaft that I used for the thickness of deck and pulpit. While I get that it's not perfect for every use I highly recommend taking a look at these. Have on on my 34 as well that works better hurt than the previous simpson-lawrence ever did new. It being hurt was my fault, nothing to do with the windlass.

Any of you guys with a Good windlass have pictures with it on your boat?

I don't see the wireless controls listed on their website. Is that something you sourced somewhere else?

I do have concerns about trying to get wires from the pulpit to the flybridge for remote control of the windlass.

I had a good automatic on my 42 that was all rode. I had to rebuild it once with a new motor. It was nice to call and get a real person on the phone to order parts. This company has been in business along time and I had great service. Other than being an all rode windlass it was very reliable, I had wanted to upgrade to chain eventually. It was also wired with fly ridge control.

Same here. I have an all rode Good windlass in the garage. Sent to them for refurb years ago and moved on from the project. Great company. Our Maxwell does fine but I don't have the same confidence.

Lewmar has a wireless kit which can be installed on any brand windlass. I installed one on an 84 I was running a few years ago. Worked well. There are also a number of wireless control kits on Amazon that can be used. It’s just a matter of sending the relay output to the solenoids

I have the Lewmar wireless and as Pascal noted the install is easy. Also the 850 is a chain/rope windlass. Good sells the chain with splice to line in several lengths. The line is color marked.

I won't be at the boat until later next week but I can say the pictures on the Good website don't do it justice. They look way better than in the pictures. But they are not chrome.

By the way, the Lewmar remote is just a cheap kit rebadged by Lewmar and sold at marine prices.

I installed this kit on the 116 to control the TNT swim platform. Works really well and more convenient than the wired remote. For under $25, it’s a bargain. Been working flawlessly for a couple of years

If you hold the button down will it keep running and stop when released?

No you need to hold the buttons, just like any momentary on switch

Tom Ring from Good installed my windlass and ran all the wiring from pulpit to the flybridge switch. BTW, another poster said Good was "rode only", and presuming he meant line only and no chain, that is not true for my model. I have 25 ft of chain forward of the line -- all bought from Good to ensure compatibility. So, my Good windlass uses a chain and line rode. Also, the windlass is free fall -- meaning that once you push the toggle switch to Lower, it keeps spooling out until you toggle to Raise.

So, I just got off the phone with Rick at Galleymaid. Apparently, they have 12v motors now. The same size windlass I have now but with a chain gypsy under it is available. That means going to all chain in the locker. I've never been a fan of all chain but if it means having a reliable self storing windlass I will make that change.

Pascal, I'm assuming the receiver/actuator box for that remote system goes in the anchor locker. It receives fine in there with the remote on the bridge?

Thanks

Yes. The Lewmar has an optional antenna. I used the Lewmar on an 84 skylounge. The signal had to go thru the skylounge deck, thru the galley and down to the locker.

Personally I can’t imagine not having all chain or at least 200’.

Anybody with a 46' running all chain? I'm wondering how much 5/16 I can put in the locker. I have seen some charts with measurements for the locker and footages. But real world experience is always preferred.
