- 53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
Our newly acquired 53ED has a well rebuilt Galley Maid. I looked through the paperwork left on the boat and could not find the windlass capacity in pounds or such. I was planning on purchasing a Mantus Marine anchor.. 125# or 155#.. Cruising area would be the Bahamas, ICW & Keys. The question is, with let’s say 150ft of 5/16” chain paid out at approx 1lbs/foot. Total weight would be 275 or 305 pounds. Ideally the windlass would need to have a 1200-1500# capacity, in case more chain gets paid out.Another anchor that we used in the past is the Spade 122lbs with a 3000# Maxwell windlass. It was great. My impression is that the Galley Made has at least 1000# or a bit more. But I have no real data.Would you all be so kind as to share the anchor weight that you have had success with. Thank youStreff
