Why not use a hose instead of copper pipe?

The copper pipes that carry raw water away from the heat exchangers on my 6V92TA's are pitting again. This always happens at the first bend where the pipe is presumably a bit thinner. After the first time, I followed the suggestion on the forum to not paint the part of the pipe under the attaching hose, but it has leaked twice since in 8 years. Is there any reason why these cannot be replaced with a suitable hot water resistant hose?

I had the pipes removed from the flanges and new heavy walled copper tig welded in to do just that. Worked well. I had little choice as replacement pipes are not available for my engines

I replaced one of mine with exhaust rated hose several years ago. No problems yet.
