I am in the process of changing out all the salon windows on our '72 43' DCFB. So the total is 4 windows per side; however, the sliders have already been replace, so 3 remain per side. One frame has a dime sized corrosion inside, so I will have that mig/tig welded and cleaned up, as much as possible. Overall the frames are decent for their age.
My question is which windows are either recommended as replacements or are now used by Hatteras. I see the options as
a) plastic sandwiched between two panes, as in the originals, or €
b) single pane tempered glass.
c) is there a third? OBTW, no plexiglas- assume all agree on that.
1) So is anyone familiar with the best choice?
2) If I have the frames re-coated, is that best as powder coating, other painting or?
Side note: I hit a big deer in my Buick years ago, while doing 70mph, directly on the windshield. The windshield of sandwiched plastic caved in, but held, and sprayed some flying glass. The deer's hooves, spun around to a side, rear window of tempered glass. That shattered into a thousand harmless (basically) pieces.
So prefer the plastic in a sandwich.
