  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
Without getting into the whole "Delo, Valvoline, etc." is better discussion, I need to find some Rotella 40W around the Virginia area. I've used it (as had the previous owner) for years with great results and analysis. Engines don't smoke at all at any speed or temperature.

Trouble is, it's just getting hard to find! Time for the spring tune up and I'd like to stock up for the season.

Anyone have a source? I found a few gallons in Hayes at a Advance Auto and have them reserved, but that's it so far. Would like to pick some up this week.

Thanks!

I have found it, or ordered it, through Pep Boys, also I think you can get it at Sam's Club. If that helps. I don't think Sam's do special orders, but PB will do them. They usually keep 15-40 in there, but 40W you will have to order from them.

Your local NAPA store can order it for you. Usually will arrive within two days at a good price. A lot of large truck and heavy equipment repair shops will have it as well.

Thanks. I'll run by NAPPA today and see what they can do.

Advanced Auto can order it. You may need their skew etc. Folks in the Keys have recently done that by requesting they 'white sheet it'. Advanced Auto Parts SKU number for Rotella T SAE40... 5073796

Let us know how it works out.

Good luck.

Bob

I find it on the shelf at NAPA in Virginia Beach. It is a NAPA out in a rural area in the NC line so they cater to farmers with heavy equipment but I'm sure any NAPA could order it .

Just ordered some at my local NAPPA, it'll be here tomorrow.
They need to train these guys better...or send em to our website!

"Sir, I've never heard of straight 40 weight. It has to be like 15w something..."
I said, son, it exists and you have it, given me the fluids catalog....lol. At least he learned something new and was polite about it.
Interestingly, they didn't have any 5 gallon buckets regionally and would have to charge me freight to deliver it in. It was only $3 difference for gallon jugs (and free freight), so I went that direction.

Thanks for everyone's help.

NAPAs are all independent dealers. Some more savvy about the esoteric and marine stuff than others. The NAPA on SR 84 near Federal Hwy in Ft. Lauderdale usually has 5 gallon pails of straight 40 Rotella and their house brand (75118) floor stacked to the left of the counter. It was a counterman at the shop in Dundalk MD that turned me on to their house brand (re-labeled Valvoline). Here in Morehead City, they are very marine oriented, it s a good place to buy Racor filters cheap and the make up hydraulic lines among other things. Their house brand oil filters are very good, made by Wix and cross reference to all Detroit and Cat OEM.

I bought the NAPA house brand 40W in Stuart for my last oil change. They told me it would no longer be avalable when the stock sold out. They would carry the Valvoline cousin instead, but at a much higher price.

I just ordered 11 five gallon pails of Napa 75118 from my local Napa store here on Long Island. The best I could do on price was $70.06. The Rotella was $81 per five gallons.

My NAPPA was $83.95 per 5 gallon for Rotella 40W. But of course, they wanted to charge for shipping into the store, so I passed and bought 7 cases (3 per case). $17.39 per gallon.
