Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
What we have done the past 3 years is:

We're going to cruise to "The Landing" which is on the St Johns River in downtown Jacksonville on Wednesday morning and tie up. Hey, free dockage.

Thursday, this time, we're driving to friends here in town and have dinner.

Friday night is the city "Lighting of the Christmas Tree" and Saturday night is the annual Christmas Boat Parade.

Then we'll cruise back to our marina on Sunday.

Four years ago, We deep fried 2 turkeys (If you haven't tried it, you don't know what your missing) and everyone brought sides and we cruised the St Johns river while eating. :D

Weeeelllll, we're in Ct and Skamm Too is on the hard. Although, today it was 55 degrees and I put on new zincs. I was tempted to tell the yard to launch her!

Anyway, back to the original question, if the weather is ok, we are going to put the Thanksgiving meal in the oven and jump on the Harley for a little Thankgiving ride. Then we do Turkey Day.

The next morning, we go to Bridgeport, jump on the ferry and go across to Port Jefferson where we "do the town" and have lunch at Billy's Cafe. Then we drive to Greenport where we stay at Townsend Manor Inn and Marina (at the Inn). All weekend we do the boat thing with the truck; Greenport, Sag Harbor, Montauk, etc, etc.

It's pretty cool. "A different point of view" to repeat a phrase. We usually see Nick from Ocean K'Omotion and Steve aka Bertramp. Hope to see them again this year. The round's on me this year, Nick!

Well, that's our Thanksgiving plans....Next?

Hatteras ;)

Since I have time off work, I'll be taking the family to my dad's condo. It just happens to be right in front of the building where the boat is. So, as long as I'm there, I guess I'll get some work done on her. I have the re-glassed transom portholes to install. The stb galley windows are out as well as the fuzzies and slide strip so those have to go back in. And, I will probably get started on battery box refurbishment/replacement.

It may not really sound like Thanksgiving, but if you're at the boat, it doesn't matter what day it is. :)

(Nobody You Know) is at Dataw Island Marina just east of Beaufort, SC. This is the closest "salt water" to our home in Athens, GA (home of Georgia Bull Dawgs you know). We are going to tow our little boat, "Sam The Jam" - 1965 Starcraft open boat on a 1956 WESCO trailer - down to Dataw and see if we can assists some of the locals in thinning out the trout and red fish over population (which as usual, have little to worry about).

For years we've heard about a local Episcopal congregation that opens it's kitchen each Thanksgiving to transient boaters for a feast (with a small contribution). We intend to check this out.

It's a tough life, especially when it drops to the lower 50's during the day, hard to putt when you are freezing to death! :D

Dataw Island Marina BTW is no place for you "spirited" party types who frequent this Forum on a regular basis...

(I hope this comes through)

Since we didn't manage to get people fired up about a Turkey Day Rendevous up here in the Panhandle, we're going down to Orlando to play with the Mouse....

This year will be a little different for me. I've got a four day weekend all to myself, so I'm just planning to work my boat. Not sure what I'll get done, but four days worth of something. (No, Ed, I'm NOT ripping out the aluminum and rockwool out of the port ER - I'm saving that for you since you did such a nice job on the starboard ER! :D ) Maybe I'll varnish the handrails.

Many of the other liveaboards here cruise down to Pumpkin Key or No Name Harbor together each year and have Thanksgiving Dinner there. That sounds like a nice plan. Maybe I'll get to do that next year. :)

Hey, Karl, that was a GREAT offer you made to the cruisers among us -- especially the use of your property; only problem, I think, was the timing.

Rockwool? Aluminum? Can you "splain" that to us, Ang?

Definitely sign up for it when you can, Ang...Pumpkin Key is a great quiet little spot. Really pretty and secluded.

That's ok - maybe we'll do it over the 4th this coming summer. We have good fireworks here and it'll be nice and warm....

Turkey at my house Thursday then friday morning we'll takeoff to Titusville to bring the boat back. Hopefully.

Processed turkey parts and soylent cheese on whole wheat of course, while heading the sub north on the tombigbee--we plan on being underway wednesday morning.

Karl, and gentlemen, I sure TRIED to get something together for the panhandle Thanksgiving rendezvous! Since there was not enough interest in that, now I have to go to the father-in-law's hunting camp again(I don't hunt!). I guess I'll just sit around and watch TV, eat and drink well and keep the ladies company while we watch a bunch of guys waking up WAY too early just to go freeze their a$$ off in the deer stands/duck blinds. WHAT FUN!

Maybe we can try this Thanksgiving Panhandle thing again next year.....

Turkey day with family, then get Ocean K'Motion ready for the winter in Greenport.

I'll be looking for you Capt K to get that round you promised. It's easier to see Skamm Too than the truck so..., I assume you'll be in town Friday; shoot me an email with your plans.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

My boat was one of those "certified for 49 passengers" charteryachts. That certification required some "fireproofing" of the engine room, or at least a longer burn time in order to evacuate the vessel, I guess. The engine room was lined (all walls and ceilings) with rockwool (very dense insulation) and then finished off with aluminum sheeting. Lost about 4" of space all the way around the engine room with that stuff in there, and a lot of stuff was covered up behind the new wall. It made for a very clean appearance, but really sucked when I could not acccess anything behind there for maintenance (like the clamps on the shaft hose! or the clamps on the sea chests, or the air conditioning power box). And the sheeting wasn't installed with the intention of being able to just open it up. It was installed with the exhausts tubes removed, presumably during the rebuild. Ed can better elaborate on what that was like to remove that stuff, but I don't think we can use words like that on the forum.

Guess what we had to replace when we opened that up......I had one clamp left on the shaft hose!

I don't want more than six charter passengers anyway....so that stuff had to go. We've got one more ER to undo. Sure is nice to have back that extra 4" all the way around.

Off to New Orleans tomorrow. Our youngest is a second year resident at Tulane Medical Center and has to work Thanksgiving. So our family will go to him. Plus New Orleans needs our business!

Then, one week from today, head for Florida. Quick clean on the boat and off to Ocean Reef's Vintage Weekend, starting Dec. 1. I think I'll make cupcakes to celebrate Fanfare's 40th year, so stop by if anyone can. May stop in Miami depending on the weather.

Then have to have an out-of-the-water survey because ACE Inamar is dropping our insurance because I am an "absentee owner." This despite no damage from Hurricanes Andrew or Wilma, or any other damages, for that matter. Well, don't get me started...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Maybe you'll pass Doug Shuman up that way on his 53. If you haven't checked out his blog, he it is:

Look for my good friend (and dock neighbor) Susanne Max at vintage weekend. Sue owns "Sirius" The very last Trumpy Yacht ever built (1973). Unfortunately, the boat will not be there with her. Sue is a great lady and a dedicated yachtsman.

No boats in the Thanksgiving plans this year....I am going to Charlotteville to have dinner with my sisters and nephews, assorted relatives and children. I only have Thurs/Fri off, then back to work:(
