I think that for a few million dollars, the buyer deserves a much more creative approach to AC/heat than several unitary systems. Like a chilled/heated water system with multiple airhandlers, for example. Over the years, I've seen a lot of entries here about problems with AC, and I think it ought to work a lot better than it does.

Ironically, on my own boat I have two systems, one of which came on the boat in 1971- the other has had the compressor chassis replaced. But my boat is much smaller and doesn't need five systems. So I'm complaining about every boat but my own, I admit.

It works just fine when maintained and properly installed. Chill water systems have their own needs for maintenance and if the circulating pump goes out....................

Dave did you admit to having a friend with a searay?

FYI I have seen some very nice non Hatteras boats lately. Cranchi, Nordi and even a GB. I cant believe that any of them had similar or better syustems than my 45 year old hatteras.

Actually about 8 of them!

Boaters are boaters. better to get out and run a searay than to sit a a dock.

I've got a few too, not to mention the Carver, Marquis, Meridian and Silverton owners.

On the electrical and air conditioning, I think the Hatteras systems are top-notch. The panels are very versatile, they are way overbuilt with oversized wiring and switches. These boats also have multiple inlets and iso-transformers. I can't see how anyone could berate the electrical systems on a 1980's Hatteras MY. Some novices don't understand the switching, but once explained how to distribute to the sub-panels, most new owners find it quite simple. I can even run my 240v loads off of one 120v inlet if I want to. How many new boats have that capability?

The A/C systems are also great. All compressors are located in the same place with easy access. They are sized right for the area that they cool and they are cooled by one central pump. What's wrong with that? We had one very large A/C compressor on our 49 Gulfstar MY and when it went out we had no air. At least on the Hatteras if I have a unit that is not working, I can cool off in another room.

I will admit that the new modern controls are better. That's why I upgraded all 4 of mine to digitals. They work great.

Boaters always beat boat owners. owning it is not the same as using it or more often in my case working on it
