What size anchor chain for 70’ CPMY?

I’m trying to decide which size chain to get and with my current capstan the size limit would be 3/8”Is that a large enough size chain if I get 150/200’? I have a 110” Bruce anchor and will use a bridal of course I keep hearing different options and it seems like I’m right on the edge of a size class Thank you

I have the same compromise with a 3/8 inch capstan dictating that chain size and 110 pound Rocna. The chain will pull the anchor but doesn't give the weighted holding power of 3/4 inch chain.

I carry 300 feet and 50-100 feet of that has never been wet. But we often put out 150-200 where room allows and sleep requires. So I think you will be nervous with just 150-200 feet.

I have 300’ of 3/8” G4 chain on my 67’ CPMY. Went to a 125# Mantus M2 anchor and the combo serves us well for the way we use it - day trips through long-weekend outings. Just make sure whatever chain you end up with is a perfect fit for your chain gypsy (both chain dimension and type). Any mismatch is a safety issue as much as anything. Galley maid service is excellent. I cut 2’ of chain off and sent to them - they sent me the correct chain gypsy for my G4 chain and new friction/clutch9 pads as well.

3/8" will do it.

Next is to ensure your windlass and chain fit.
IMO, there is no exact sience in link sized in B & G chains, just guidelines.
Ask for a sample of a foot or so and wrap it tight on your windlass sprocket.
Or take your chain gypsy to the supplier.
Tight chain should fit like a glove.

BTW, SS chain from China does not fit anything.

Thank for the input, we actually went by the Galley Maid manufacturing shop in okechobee and that place is awesome Still the American dream, 3rd generation owned and the owner literally showed us how to fix our head pumps and talked about the winch etc. which was beyond helpful and nice I’ll step up to at least 200’ from the sounds of it but that’s good to k is it works.
